class strikers and wingers generally cost alot more than defenders mate, you can buy a rock solid CB for £5-6 mil but a 1 in 2 striker will cost you a good £15 mil+

But you have 4 defenders.

Just saying that logic is flawed. I honestly think it's coaching rather than pricetags that's more important in terms of defensive unity/attacking ability. It's a team game after all.

Oh yeah, I'm definitely worried. Just suggesting that fixing a defence isn't necessarily easy. He'd have to improve massively here of course, but hopefully with better players and the ability to attract better players, well er... he'll be better!

my worry is not straight away but jags and distain are getting on now and distain will defo need replacing very soon and martinez is going to choose that replacement!

*shudders

god i hope i'm wrong and martinez becomes god!

exactly 4 good defenders will probably cost slightly more than that of a proven 20 goal a season hit man, but you then need 2 tricky wingers with pace and a good 1-2 back up strikers, I think thats why Moyes has had a tough job on his budget in terms of attacking options

Yeah I know what your saying but Martinez didn't have the £12m needed for 2 good centre backs who he could persuade to play for Wigan Athletic in front of their 772 fans. Don't forget Martinez only had a fraction of the wage budget and a lot less time (Moyes had 7 years more to sort the attack)

Beattie, Bilya, Yakubu, AJ, Jelavic... plenty of money spent on attacking flops (Jela aside -- I'll give him the benefit of the doubt).

I might be misinterpreting your post but does that not highlight how well Martinez has done in getting wigan to play with a serious attacking threat? He's filled the 'difficult positions' if you like, whilst spending the square route of sod all.

Can the papers please stop linking us with crap Wigan defenders?

http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/everton-transfers-antolin-alcaraz-set-1931905?

The latest tale is Martinez will be 'swooping' for 'trusted centre-half, 30 year old Antolin Alcaraz - available on a free transfer, whose arrival will help him switch Everton to a 3-5-2 formation'.

The worst part of Wigan's team was their defence, so why on earth would we be signing one of their crap defenders - especially one that is 30 years old (when we already have Jags nearly 31, Distin 35, and Heitinga nearly 30), also someone on a free?

The notion that Martinez will improve at Everton because he'll have better players at his disposal will become flawed if he starts signing crap Wigan defenders!

I can't see Man United coming in for Fellaini as Moyes will be too busy buying Fabregas & Ronaldo. I'd like to think Martinez won't raid Wigan because he'll be using our precious transfer funds for a player or 2 who have been sending his pro-zone stat graphs off the charts but he wouldn't have been able to sign for Wigan.

Alcaraz is their best player according to hte Wigan fans I play football with, they said if he wasn't injured all the time they'd have stayed up easy. We dont need another injury prone though.
