Mauro Boselli

His style of play has been described by Roberto Martínez as "a clever player and natural finisher ... who can create havoc in the penalty area."

6.5M pounds later, he is worse than Denis Stracqualursi. Is that even possible?
Well, as pointed out - Billy, etc.

Some players are just not suited to the prem. He's one of them. For us - Bilyaletdinov, Kroldrup, etc.

He tw@tted us 3 nil when it mattered then went on to tw@t the richest club in Christendom and actually lift the trophy - 2 equivalent results that would never happen under the last regime.

You're ignoring the circumstances at Wigan - wages slashed, transfer funds removed all from day one. Our manager was given a few years before transfer funds were blocked and on top of that he inherited Rooney and hasn't HAD to sell his stars.

Imagine those things happening to Moyes from day 1 - relegation??? possible.

But the 3-0 win wasn't when it mattered. A win in the league against Swansea was "when it mattered". He bottled the big games, (Swansea at home, Arsenal away). We have also won 1/4 finals. We beat the best team in Europe in the semi final. I think the city's players lack of professionalism won Wigan the final as well. Lets be honest, City lost that final.

Well again, thats not true. Wages rose slightly under Martinez's tenure to start with. His wage bill has remained the same.

We had a negative net spend in the first 2/3 years under Moyes, yet still finished in the top 4. He has taken a side that the managerial geniuses of Bruce, jewell and Hutchins managed to keep up, and taken them down. That is a complete, unprecedented failure. He may do well for us, but all evidence is not good.

At the end of the season, he had 3 big games out of 4 remaining. He lost two, and drew 1 of his important games. He won the least important of the 4.

Moyes with a similar budget to Martinez, took a side into the top 5 of the league.

I've no idea which deluded Wiganer wrote that, but in the last 6 months of his tenure (Dec- May) they kept a total of 3 clean sheets in the league. Lost 12 out of 23 League games & never got higher than 1 week at 16th in the League.

They conceded 2 or more goals in 18 of those 23 fixtures - rock solid defence? I think not.

Anyone who watched their home game to Swansea which as good as sealed their demise, could see what their problem was & has been for his entire time there - their defensive set up.

I hope your glowing praise for him ends up being justified, but I have grave concerns about the man tbh, I hope I'm wrong.

Beat me to it. Well said sir.

Don't manager's make mistakes?

The greatest manager this country has seen spent £7milllion on Bebe.

By the way Boselli came to England with a boss goal scoring record.
Of course all manager make mistakes. The point people are making though, is that Martinez has had some funds to spend. He has not spent the well enough to keep Wigan up.

Yes of course.

But then we all know that this will only be possible if that manager is given a top 4 transfer and wages budget.......don't we? well I hope we do anyway!

Think you will find that many on here believe that we are not top4 because of a dour, defensive ex manager who made bad subs and ignored youth. A change has been wanted for 18months by quite a few and the cash differences transfers and wages seemingly means nothing because we're Everton and we used to win stuff in the 80's!

Well these have there wish. That dour, defensive manager has been plucked away by the champions of England and one of the biggest clubs in Europe and we have got an attacking style new manager.

True .....ignoring everything else......he would have a pretty tasty team if he got to keep his stars like moyes did....valencia, moses, nzogbia, mcarthy diame ect....all in one team is comparable to ours now (obviously not as good) .....for that reason i am in!............plus i like the way he carries himself in the media

I like how you spin Wigan's FA Cup win as luck, and our FA Cup Semi final win AGAINST MAN UNITED's RESERVES.....ON PENALTIES. As some amazing Footballing lesson!!

Everyone can spin things.

Meh not fussed was probs my second choice i wont fume like if it was neville ect be intresting to see what he can do

Laudrup was always gonna be to expensive with his £10 m. clause. Peirera I have no idea whether he was ever considered - maybe he was just us fans dream?

Martinez IMO is a solid choice and the best of the options available.

Since this afternoon I have been thinking about who the managerial links in the press were when Smith was fired?

I do love this Man United reserves nonsense. Given Ronaldo was injured, they were almost full strength. There was about 150 million pounds worth of talent on the pitch. Reserves like Vidic, Ferdinand, Berbatov, Scholes, Evra, Wellbeck, Tevez etc. The United team we beat were far stronger than the City side Wigan beat. It's a shame when Evertonians try to trounce all over the memory of famous Wembley Wins.
