Quite possibly. Klopp started at Mainz (he was a one club man having made 338 appearances for Mainz) in 2001 and got them promoted to the Bundesliga in 2004. Mainz finished 11th in 04-05 and 11th in 05-06 before being relegated. I'm sure relegation had some impact on the quality of his side fof the 06-07 season and after failing ton promotion, he resigned.

Klopp might have been relegated, but he also got Mainz promoted.

Klopp had done that. Why on earth it means Martinez will do the same>

What does 'signed' mean next to certain players names? Doesn't even give any fee.

That site is not reliable.

That's all very well and good mate but why on earth would any of those not only leave their countries to come to glamourous Liverpool in the sunny north of England, but also be prepared to work under the no net spend Kenwrong regime?

Martinez is probably as good as it gets.

Jesus mate, can you listen to yourself! We might as well give up if thats our attitude. I have never been to Mainz, or Herenveen, but Liverpool can't be all bad!
But to answer you, we would pay them more money. We are a much bigger club than Herenveen and Mainz, and Blanc is out of work. We have a lot of good young players. We have a chairman who is patient, and fans who are patient.
Finally, foreign manager like testing themselves in England. It opens up greater opportunities for them. I accept Fevre might be hard to get, but Blanc, Tuchel and Van Basten are all gettable.

what a lucky man he will be if he takes the job,he'll get to know the passion of Evertonians,if you like he'll "get us ",we're a top top football club with great history and great fans.
better not read some of the whoppers on here who are ready to bury him before he even takes the job, Not my first choice,Martinez is an able manager who can do a great job if he gets a bit of luck and the backing of the fans etc.and of course turning down the red****e has to be a plus !.

The fact is, nobody knows in advance if a new manager will succeed or not. Same with Moyes at Man Utd. All we can do is give the new manager our full support and not gripe about the appointment in advance. COYB

Been calling for Martinez since his Swansea days - he is the ONLY manager, I repeat ONLY manager to actually build a club since Clough at Derby and Forest - the success the Swans have enjoyed is ENTIRELY based on his foundations.

Those concentrating on Wigan's relegation and comparing his tenure to Steve Bruce should read what Wigan fans wrote:

"Roberto Martinez may have achieved lower leagues positions than Steve Bruce but he did that with a halving of the wage bill and reduction in transfer funds."

".... It has taken 3 years to change the whole philosophy of the club, with it finally paying off in recent months."

"he has got Wigan Athletic playing the most attractive, exciting, attacking and effective football we have ever played and has simultaneously made the organisation and defence rock solid. It is an unbelievable turn around, but the stunning last 6 months (which involved beating Liverpool, Arsenal and should of been Chelsea away and Man U at home) aren’t a blip in form or a fluke, they are the result of the changes he has made."

EFC have needed a "Shanks" since the 70s someone of vision and principle to change things - not only win but inspire the whole club and shake this "impending doom" aspect that has grown obscenely in this last decade.

Taking the game to the opposition is the only way for Evertonians give us against the odds victories when it matters and the thunderous noise from Goodison Park will blow the windows out at Old Trafford and the Etihad.

Come on Bobby you beauty!!!

What it does prove is that, yes, he has made some stinking signings (e.g. Ramis and Boselli) but hasn't every manager? But is also shows that he has made some good signings (Gomez, Moses, Diame, Thomas, McArthur, McCarthy, Maloney and Kone) for the level that Wigan are at.

Also look at the good sales he has made- Cattermole for 6mil is a great sale as is Valencia for 16mil and Bramble for 1mil...

Therefore, I would say it's inconclusive- not all bad as you suggest

I agree with you mate, his record is mixed. That is my point. But some people are making out he's had no money to spend, and never spent badly. He has made some good and bad signings. There is no guarentee that with a modest increase in budget, he'd get a team into the top 4.

Just a thought. Bearing in mind that the Utd manager is still technically employed by us, would BK have had word with him about RM do you reckon?

You're posts about Martinez before has been signed contradicts this....

How do you know we'd pay them a lot of money? The only reason Moyes was on so much was because he kept the fans off Kenwrong's back! There's no way Martinez will be earning anything like the 70k a week Moyes was on.

I bet in a way Kenwrong was made up Moyes was off, because it means he can get a replacement in at a fraction of the cost.

Also, I haven't heard one reliable quote from a foreign manager saying they'd be interested in the job, which I'd expect if they were up for a crack at it.

Can you honestly imagine a big name like van Basten taking the Everton hot seat?

To be fair Ramis was out most of the season. He can barely be called a stinking signing.

Is it possible Martinez would have got Swansea promoted the season he left to joined Wigan if he hadn't?

He was the man who got the ball rolling there with their style of play and the team Rodgers inherited was his.

Rodgers who got sacked by Reading gets all the praise for Swansea's success and style, people forget about Martinez's input.

Of course, never a guarantee but I have to admit I am slightly intrigued as to who he will bring in...

What has been put by their fans doesn't make sense. His philosophy has started to pay off, conceeding lots of goals, and getting relegated.
We do not need someone to shake the "impending doom". We are a top 6 club. We have had a manager who has risen us from perenial relegation fodder to a side competing at the top end of the league and getting close to honours. What we actually need, is a manager who can take us from being a top 6 side, into one that finishes in the top 4.
Martinez has a proven track record of doing the exact opposite of that. We should be looking for someone to lift us into the top 4. We have just appointed someone who has been relegated a couple of weeks ago.
I hope you're right, and he is the man, but I have my doubts.

I guarentee that whatever we are paying (or potentially paying Martinez) will be a lot more than any of the 4 managers I have mentioned are on.
If you offered Van Basten 30k a week, I reckon he'd strongly consider it.
