He turned it down because the RS wouldn't give him full control. That's nowt to do with lack of ambition, quite the opposite! He could have just taken the money, but his stance shows intergrity and is worthy of respect.

So in a nutshell, he has spent more than we have in the last 4 years, and got a side relegated. Great. This is the guy to take us into the top 4.

It would be remiss of us not to speak to him as part of the selection process. It rings yet more alarm bells that he "doesn't feel equipped to take Wigan back to the Premier League" though. Does he have the stomach to scrap and grind out results? Maybe he'll appeal to Stoke who are trying to change their image from a route one side and could potentially make him a more attractive offer?

Laudrup doesnt want to leave Swansea.

If Periera really wanted to join Everton, he wouldnt have told Porto he wants a one year contract. He was never coming.

People keep saying there are better names out there, don't tell me there is, name them? and why they would want to manage potless Everton?
I have named them a lot mate. Tuchel, Fevre, Blanc, Van Basten. 2 of them are at clubs who are smaller than Wigan. Blanc is out of work. Fevre might be a difficult sell. There's also the guy who left Basel, who's name eludes me.
All of the above have a better win ratio than Martinez. In an odd way, I'd have rather have had Weir or Neville with Royle than a guy with a 30% win ratio.

Today I am sad, I so want to be proved wrong but i'm scared this is going to turn into a car crash of an appointment. I don't like the fact Martinez has just abandoned a sinking/sunk ship, I don't like the fact we're going to have to pay to get him, I don't like Martinez' defensive tactics, and I don't like the fact Martinez is from the Kevin Keegan school of managing 'we'll just try and score more than you do' However, i'm all about giving people a chance, and if were all rejoicing after putting the RS to the sword at Satan's pit, well maybe there is hope. Come on Martinez, prove me wrong!

That's all very well and good mate but why on earth would any of those not only leave their countries to come to glamourous Liverpool in the sunny north of England, but also be prepared to work under the no net spend Kenwrong regime?

Martinez is probably as good as it gets.

It was Kenwright to be blamed. He makes the decision.

What it does prove is that, yes, he has made some stinking signings (e.g. Ramis and Boselli) but hasn't every manager? But is also shows that he has made some good signings (Gomez, Moses, Diame, Thomas, McArthur, McCarthy, Maloney and Kone) for the level that Wigan are at.

Also look at the good sales he has made- Cattermole for 6mil is a great sale as is Valencia for 16mil and Bramble for 1mil...

Therefore, I would say it's inconclusive- not all bad as you suggest

what a lucky man he will be if he takes the job,he'll get to know the passion of Evertonians,if you like he'll "get us ",we're a top top football club with great history and great fans.
better not read some of the whoppers on here who are ready to bury him before he even takes the job, Not my first choice,Martinez is an able manager who can do a great job if he gets a bit of luck and the backing of the fans etc.and of course turning down the red****e has to be a plus !.

You wouldn't have appointed Klopp at Dortmund either then.

Quite possibly. Klopp started at Mainz (he was a one club man having made 338 appearances for Mainz) in 2001 and got them promoted to the Bundesliga in 2004. Mainz finished 11th in 04-05 and 11th in 05-06 before being relegated. I'm sure relegation had some impact on the quality of his side fof the 06-07 season and after failing to win promotion, he resigned.

Klopp might have been relegated, but he also got Mainz promoted.

And Martinez won the FA cup.
