Not my first choice...not even in my top 3...however, if he is appointed, i will back him as much as possible. While not thrilled there are worse appointments...

Under Roberto Martinez
He's the best little spaniard we know!

I did answer them - check the quote box. That's the difference mate. I'm not talking about getting a big coach from a big club. I recognize Everton has limitations as do you.

I don't find anything inspiring in Martinez whose biggest "credential" before this season was relegation escape artist. Escaping relegation is something Martinez is loaded for bear in experience, experience I hope is never needed at Everton. I want to be intrigued and excited about the next manager. Martinez, to me, is neither.

You wouldn't have appointed Klopp at Dortmund either then.

But that doesn't take into account that he also massively reduced Wigan's wage bill and made a net profit on transfers during his tenure. I know those aren't exciting qualities that fans want to hear about in a new manager, but it does shed some light on why Wigan have only just survived under him, rather than kicking on. He hasn't had anything like the resources that were given to Steve Bruce (who signed Marlon King on £40,000 a week FFS) or Paul Jewell. Their record transfer is only £7m, which was for N'Zogbia, who they were then forced to sell and made a profit on thanks to Martinez getting the best out of him (he's been bloody awful for Villa).

Didn't Martinez spend over 11 million on Ramis and Boselli? I don't have figures to hand, but I just don't believe that Wigan spent less money on wages this season than they did under Paul Jewel.

Martinez wasn't my first choice but I'm happy to give him a chance as I think he's a good fit and has an admirable ethos.

Anyone who turns down the RS is alright by me!

It shows a lack of ambition IMO. Yes they're a shower and a bunch of ********s, but if you were in Martinez' position as a non Evertonian you would surly take the chance to manage a team with the resources they have.

Moyes uttered the "People's Club" no long after appointed, what could Martinez possibly do to curt favour with the fans ? media ? .. as sure as hell he'll have to do it.

If the above is anything to go by, "I am the Pope of Merseyside. Half the people love me, half the people hate me. But I am always right" might be his first line.

"Here at Everton I will ensure nobody has pineapple on pizza" should be his second.

Seriously, though, I want to hear him say something ambitious, not patronising.

I do agree, but to be honest is there anyone else out there of higher calibre that would want to manage Everon? You only need to look at the names we're being linked with.

Martinez for me is the best of the bunch.

Again just not true. Pereira is of much higher calibre. Laudrup is as well. And as I keep saying, just because Kenwright is not looking wide/ambitious enough doesn't mean there aren't better candidates. I am sure people think it's either Stubbs, Martinez or Klopp/Mourinho. There are lots of European coach's, some who are out of work, who would jump at the chance to come to a top 6 premier league club.

His honesty and integrity may have been an impediment.

2008/09 - £42m
2009/10 - £39m (Martinez first year)
2010/11 - £40m

According to the Telegraph.

Well that shows a very slight decline from the Bruce era. Hardly being cut to the bone like the picture is being painted. A 2 million decrease in wages seems to result in much poorer league performances. If you gave Bruce two million more in wages on our current budget, where would he finish? A lot lower than 6th.
Finally, it is not yet showing the figures for Paul Jewel.

Laudrup doesnt want to leave Swansea.

If Periera really wanted to join Everton, he wouldnt have told Porto he wants a one year contract. He was never coming.

People keep saying there are better names out there, don't tell me there is, name them? and why they would want to manage potless Everton?
