With Hughes set to be appointed at Stoke and it being somewhat unlikely he'd get the Malaga job Martinez is risking a lot on getting the Everton job if he hasn't had any kind of assurance.

Martinez has not resigned,he's told Whelan he wants to leave Wigan, and Kenwright has asked for permission to speak to him.

Much of a muchness. Key point is that he never said he wanted to leave prior to speaking to Liverpool or Villa. Hell, he flew out to America to speak to the s***e owners without saying he wanted to leave Wigan.

He'll join Chelsea once we get Mourinho, la.

...I'm absolutely not in the Periera camp for reasons previously articulated but I don't think he's on Bill's radar. The indication is that Bill has narrowed his applicants down to 3 (reported on Sky Sports as we speak). We know one of these is Martinez and I expect another is an internal - probably Weir who is reported to have been impressive when interviewed. That leaves one. It could be Vitor, but I have my doubts. Reports coming out of Russia indicated that Bilic has been interviewed and Everton had made enquiries regarding potential amount of compensation to his current club (St Petersburg I think).
So there you go, my 3 are Martinez, Weir and Bilic. My preference is Martinez but who knows what the next few days will bring. The only certainty is that things are rarely straightforward at Everton.

I think its 3 external interviews to be done this week, internals last week, Bilic is at Lokomotiv Moscow btw

Really, really don't agree with this.
When we played Wigan at home and won 2 - 1 (just before we played Chelsea and lost 0 - 2) they were appalling.

We were pretty bad too mind you.

Worst game I watched at Goodison last year.

I completely disagree with that, I thought Wigan were excellent that day and very unlucky to lose, as did most of the lads in the Chepstow afterwards

He's left them. How could Whelan say Martinez doesn't feel he's the one to take them forward in the Championship and that he accepts his decision? It's a resignation. Full stop.

Malaga still involved in corruption scandals last season they can not pay some players wages according to talk sport so very unlikely Martenez will go there by the sounds of it if reported is true!

...cheers Matey, thanks for the Bilic correction. Sky Sports and now Sky News are definitely reporting Martinez plus '2 other candidates', no reference is being made to internal/external. There was definitely twitter traffic coming from Russia on Monday evening linking Bilic and Everton.

Ffs lads, like being stuck on a skem roundabout due to an indecisive sat nav.

Just had to jump about 10 pages out of sheer frustration. Possibly missing an apology for comparing me to rawk?

Can we get to the subject of his song as he won't come if its a **** 1.

Heard a version of the Martini 1 touted, inevitably a best little Spaniard 1 will be attempted, but dies anyone remember the Fabien Barthez one, repeated ad nauseum ?

I'm plucking for that.
