Which is a perfectly legitimate argument if there was no skill involved in winning trophies and it was purely a matter of luck.

But much like england have been happily proving how little luck there is in penalty shootouts, Moyes has been proving how little luck there is in winning cups.

I agree there is something in a "big game" winning mentality, of course there is. it can be overplayed. The successful sides and managers have people who win consistently, and want to win every game.
We also have to accept, the "big" games for Wigan at the end of last season were not the FA Cup Final. It was Swansea at home, and Arsenal away. They failed miserably in both. The City game was a bonus. I remember when we won the cup in 95, and Royle said it was a bonus game for us. Our Cup Final had been Ipswich away.
Thats not to knock their achievement, but it is to give some perspective to the idea that Martinez has the magic formula in important games.

I also think it's overplayed the idea of "winning big games". By that Rhetoric, Lennon is a better manager than Moyes, as he knows how to win finals. Moyes will (if he stays) win thinsg at United. Will he have magically acquired the skills, or alternatively will he just be working for a club who can afford better players.

But I've seen us when we were 17th/16th/15th every season. I can assure you I don't want a return to those days. Jesus the pressure we had on games then, no Cup Final or Semi final even comes close to the deperation I had for us to win some of them.

The 90s ruined me, honestly, they did.

The thought of it is putting me into meltdown!

Longest trophy drought in our history, mate. I don't care how many times we finish 5th or 6th if that keeps up.

Bingham and Lee had us 3rd and 4th and were hated because they didn't win trophies. What's changed?

Sadly we're in different times where having loads of cash makes you a big club. Fourth didn't mean anything back then either, now it means quite a bit both in terms of exposure and finance. We got a lot more TV time this year because of our league position during the first half of the season, and then our mix with the eventual top four finishers.

Out of order that.

One deluded fan thinks its his right to finish in the top 4 then, OK MATE X

Lol, apologies. Kopite was meant tongue in cheek. Being deluded and looking at fourth, is better than being a realist and finishing 18th with a shiny FA cup fluke b)

Yea, why would we want a championship winner who's lost 1 game in two years, when we can have a guy who has been relegated two months ago? Remember though he won an FA Cup, beating sides such as Huddersfield, Millwall and a City side who's manager was about to be sacked en route!
Either will likely produce a big step down from the glory of the last 11 years though eh
