The question isn’t necessarily if a new keeper is vastly better than Pickford. The question is whether he’s decent enough for Pickford to consider him as potential competition. As long as Pickford is looking over his shoulder, knowing that he needs to perform at a high level to keep his starting spot, then that’s a massive improvement.
His entire time here, Pickford has known he was the automatic first choice. No matter how many mistakes he’s made, he’s not once been held accountable and been dropped for a backup. That’s why we need another option... whoever it may be.
