Is it just me watching that effort from the leeds player onto the post that thinks olsen had it covered?
I did think that to be fair at the time, but we wont ever know, i actually thought he saved the shot at 1st till the replay but even then the trick of some replays from certain angles still made it look like a save lol

I've been following Robin Olsen for a long time and not surprised that he has done quite well for you so far. Before Roma bought him after the World Cup, he made a bunch of great games prior to that with the Swedish national team against top nations as Italy, France and Netherlands. Remember that he was brought to Roma to replace Alisson and if you get an opportunity like that, then you can't be too bad. I think he did some great games in the first half of the season for them and when they lost it was usually not his fault, mainly due to a inferior central midfield compared to the previous season. They sold both Nainggolan and Strootman the same summer as Olsen arrived. The central defender Fazio didn't look solid either. They changed manager and Olsen became a bit of a scapegoat and was seen as fourth keeper after the season. He had one of the best goalkeeping coaches in Savorani, same guy that transformed first Szczesny and later Alisson. Many teams in the middle and bottom of Italian, French, German leagues were interested to sign him on loan but they didn't want to pay his full salary. In the last days of the transfer window Cagliari came to an agreement with Roma. Their first keeper and Italy's number 2 Cragno had got a severe injury and was out for half a year. Cagliari as a team overperformed that first half of the season 2019-2020 and Olsen was ranked as one of the best goalies in Serie A in several criterias. Olsen got a 4 match suspension before the winter break and that was the beginning of Cagliari's decline. He played some games before Cragno was fully recovered but the team never regained the form. Cragno was too valuable to not be included in the starting eleven when he was ready and then Olsen was benched for most of the remaining games. Cragno is younger and a great keeper in general but the team played better with Olsen that season in my opinion. I assume Ancelotti is fully aware of Olsen's capabilities as being Italian and also a former player for Roma.

My conclusion is that he could be a bargain considering his relatively low market value. He has improved his kicking slightly in Italy and worked a lot with Savorani on the low shoots. He's not Alisson or Oblak but how many in the world are as good as them.

The best compliment I can give him, is I get the same feeling watching him I used to get watching Nigel Martyn. There were not always the spectacular saves, but he would save the ones you expected him too and didn't make many mistakes.

I liked his size when we bought him and still do. He helps us off set pieces. There is a calmness that comes with his age. I've defended Pickford quite a lot, but I'd keep Olsen for the time being. He's done very well in the games hes had.

great insight my friend

I actually think I prefer his kicking to Pickford's just because he keeps more of them contestable. We've got the best header of the ball around up top so the only bad ball is one straight to the other keeper.

Think Olsen is a decent back up but not good enough with the ball to be No.1. Ideally we sell Pickford & get a new No.1

Great insight. What was his 4 match suspension for?

I've had a few chats with Willie Young (Ex Scotland, Ars, Forest) over the years and he always said having a keeper that the back four can trust was like having an extra player on the pitch. Enables them to not only focus on their jobs and not have to be concerned about providing extra cover for the keeper but also to be more dynamic themselves. Olsen strikes me as being someone the defence already has trust in (so far)

They had a 2-0 lead against Lecce and one of the defenders in his team, got a red card for handball in the late part of the second half. Lecce also got a penalty due to that situation, which resulted in a goal. Olsen kicked the ball away in frustration afterwards and the goalscorer was eager to get the ball and seemed to have said something that provoked Olsen. Olsen pushed or punched the yelling attacker a few times and he fell to the ground. Normally he is calm and stable but that was the first time I've seen him so upset. I guess he was really disappointed when they had a comfortable lead.

I actually like him more now

:) i hope he won't be provoked like that, the games he will participate in for your team.

I didn't know that Pickford was so prone to mistakes but just saw a compilation video of the worst. Based on that video I totally understand that you don't have so much confidence in him. Has the competition with Olsen limit his mistakes recently?
