2024/25 Roman Dixon

I know he was a late sub and only had a few touches and a couple of runs, but there's something about this kid. Looks a first team natural already.

He has tools, he’s going to be a player, that pace Kills and he’s very good 1:1.

It’s the tactical positioning adaptation stuff that can be coached he needs to work on.

That pace though….

I'd be inclined - with (fingers crossed) Branthwaite and Tarkowski back as a CB unit - to play him from the off. They can get over and lend a hand...they were doing that in any case to the hopelessly out of position Young for most of last season.

I think he’s still a bit green, he’s one for later in the game and tired legs, watched him closely on Sat he was struggling with positioning at times, holding the line, managing over loads all at PL pace - which is fair where he’s at in development.

Actually reminds me a bit of Coleman starting out until he got a bit nous.

Definitely a tool later in the game, with those afterburners, maybe even like Coleman a bit further up the pitch as an out for the counter.

Would like to see him a team with Branthwaite and Tarkowski against a bottom half table team.

That'd be a real opportunity for him to show what he can do.

Be interesting, would say this though Branthwaite does a lot of covering for Myko, maybe JT could do it for Dixon, but also might spread us a bit thin centrally, if both were coming across, maybe not to though.

It's the technical side of his game which concerns me. His pace is obviously a huge advantage and defensively he's looked ok, particularly for his age and that side of his game will improve with experience, but I'm not sure you can coach ability with the ball into someone at his age. He just looks clumsy with the ball. He might make a really good career with the tools he has - Kyle Walker has never been what you'd call the most cultured full back in the world after all, so it's not to say he won't make it, but I think I said the other day that if he was a new signing rather than a kid coming through the academy eyebrows might be raised about his lack of quality.

He’s 19 just gone to be fair mate. I noticed a bit of what you said, but I put it down to PL pace - what’s often not talked about in the step up to PL level is the game moves really fast - faster then any level or any league. Space just gets sucked up and it’s hard to manage when you don’t have the experience and is a huge adaptation.

There was one phase I remember he went to take the ball forward through the centre, he hit it in front in him and was about to turn on the after burners all of a sudden a Spurs player was there - he get away with that at under age but not at PL pace. That I think is the adjustment.

I just realised I made a case for Premier league experience! 😂

Coleman’s technique has always frustrated the hell out of me given his other attributes. But if you have Coleman’s pace and strength and Baines technique you have an all time great full back who doesn’t stay with us long.
