Romelu Lukaku

great news tbh, for all his flaws, our fans are deluded if they think we can attract a better goalscorer right now. We need to be buying players and setting up systems to bring the best out of him, that's how we'll win trophies. he'll surely have some release clauses in there, otherwise i fail to see how he's accepted staying here.

Don't kid yourselves lads, Riola has tried to flog him to all and sundry last 12 months but everyone unfortunately has watched him play and realised, rightly, that he just ain't that good.

Bottom of the distance covered out of the whole league. I'd be embarrassed.

This is the only thing that makes sense from his perspective, Mickey :)

If Riola thought there was a queue of suitors waiting in the wings, he would not allow Rom to sign an extension making him more expensive to said suitors and running the risk of pricing him out the narket ;)

Roms all about Rom and Riola is all business. Let's not act like they're doing us a solid and we're lucky to keep him.

Its to boost our wage spending power under the leagues wage rules (somewhat like FFP only..different)

It will be why Baines and Barry have new deals too. Enables us to spend more next year.
This may well be true, but if it is it's a strange way of doing things as all of the increased spending power (or a good chunk of it at least) will be tied up in the current squad for at least a couple of years by which time wage inflation will have made these gains somewhat irrelevant. Almost seems like spending for the sake of it if true.

Get a mata type player behind him instead of the likes of Barkley and his game would improve massively. Needs better support and someone to play a bit closer to him but he is still class even if he does have some faults.

We need to build a strong team to challenge for things and we need him to be apart of that team.

Yo

u don't want a striker proven in the premier league to score 20 plus goals a season even when he and the team are a bit MEH
really??
He's a proven goalscorer, but as has been mentioned in the thread does be worsen the others around him? Would the attack score more and function better overall with a striker who may score less but compliment the others? Long balls upfield, swinging crosses into the box, very little interplay in the attack (we had 8 touches in the RS box in 90 plus minutes)...it's a limited one dimensional attack. A worse case than Lukaku was the effect of big Dunc. While a club legend and cult figure for his shenanigans, he was detrimental to the attack as it was direct, long balls upfield, win flicks ons etc..what successful team plays like this?
