Romelu Lukaku

Ah crap, my hopes have been raised again. There'll be a catch in this which will probably make it worse for us than his current contract no doubt.

I doubt a change in a release clause stipulation would fulfill his wish of extra ambition so that can't be what will have changed his mind.

Situation could mirror the Rooney one after Ronaldo left and he effectively wanted a guarantee of squad investment before deciding to stay (the off misquoted second transfer request that Rooney put in)

he's one of the best strikers around if the a whole team is prepared to cover his work load. theres not many top teams in Europe that can afford that luxuory. Every player has to put a shift in, every single game. For this reason alone i honestly dont think the real big teams would want him. maybe only a PSG would come after him infact.

Funny thing is though mate, Lukaku is just a natural goalscorer - and those are rare as anything - only two i've seen comparable would be Lineker and Shearer for just putting away any chance he gets.

Your correct that to get the best out of him - a team would need to play to his strengths - but the same can be said about a huge amount of top players, look at Rodriguez at Madrid for example - a relative flop due to being played out of position slightly to accommodate 'better' players.

It's Belgiums main problem, they have Lukaku, Hazzard and De Bruyne and they seem caught between whose strengths to play too, ending up in a team which doesn't look like it has any set idea of what it's doing - despite the abundance of talent (and not a Martinez fault that - as it was that way under the previous numpty they had in charge).

Here's a thought though, United under Ferguson when they had Ruud van Horse head playing where a brilliant team and a balanced one as well, RVN was very much a similar type/style player to Lukaku and it worked because they had a manager who understood just how rare it is to have a striker that lethal and that the team is better when it focuses on playing to his strengths.

All moot anyway as think he will sign a new contract - stay AT LEAST one more season and will have a option in his contract allowing him to move next summer should be fail to deliver in terms of investment and progression as a team (on and off the pitch)

Your also forgetting who is agent is... The same man who took 14 mil out the Pogba deal and will probably want at least 15 out of any Lukaku deal, Everton will say to any who asks, you have to break the transfer record

We won't get 100mil for Rom mate. We'll get a huge, fair fee, but it won't be that much.

..we see the best of him but his performance in the home Derby was poor. He needs to contribute in games like that even when chances are limited and he might not score. Lead the line, go to war with the CBs, run the channels, get free kicks, relieve pressure on his defence. We need him to turn up on Saturday lunchtime, if he does we're very much in that game.

Expect a big game from rom will most likely be up against klavan, lovren and cancan. Stronger and faster than all them twits should terrorise them really

This.

We were up against Lovren and Klavan last time and let them have so much of the ball that they were like Beckenbaur in his pomp.

We can not afford to sit back this time.

...absolutely, plus our wide players never pushed their full backs the other way leaving them to put pressure on our back four. All of our offensive players were poor in the home Derby yet everybody highlights Gareth Barry. To get anything at the weekend everybody needs to put in a shift and we'll have to accept desicions are unlikely to go our way.

What he needs to do is put in performances where, even if he doesnt score, he is a contender for man of the match.

Like Drogba used to do. He would bully defences rotten, not score and be MOM.

I love Rom and think if he can add this to his game when not scoring, he will be a serious elite player.

Play the game to his strengths Eggs and that's what he'll do.
