Yep,"Everton that"Good news at everton usually is always followed by some sort of bad news. So i would gaurentee if he signed this week we would lose our next 2 games

Equally if keeping him is the difference between 6th and possibly finishing 4th then £20 million really isn't that big a loss.If we lose say 20mil of his value by keeping him here next year without him signing a new contract is it worth it?? (because he will only have 1 year left)
I think the club will/should tell him that if he signs a new contract or not he will be here next season therefore its in his and the clubs interest to get the contract signed as both party's will lose money if he doesn't.
Exactly!! There wont be any loss at all we would still get 50m+ with 1 year left on his contract..Equally if keeping him is the difference between 6th and possibly finishing 4th then £20 million really isn't that big a loss.
I think its the only way! The beauty is he has 2 years and not 1 so the power is with the club IMO
Even with 1 year left on his contract we would still double our money on him.
Its simple you're under contract and you WILL be playing for Everton next season!! End of story
Sulk about it and it wont look good for any potential buyers in a years time..
That wouldnt happen... if/when he does leave or stay he will be on a massive contract anyway.I think the power is with the player. If we let him get down to 1 year of his contract he could just refuse any incoming offers and let his contract run out in order to get a huge payday by signing on a free for a club.
That wouldnt happen... if/when he does leave or stay he will be on a massive contract anyway.
Agreed. This is the optimum time to sell him for profit, but its also the optimum time for the club to keep him while he still has 2 years left and he could potentially fires us in the CL next season.. If we dont make it (next season) the club and player have an agreement and we say goodbye! There are so many risks associated to forcing a player into staying in this way and ultimately the only losers would be Everton.
Would you ,if you were a player with ambition really want to sign for a club that yes has ambition but has a track record of refusing to let players go?It may sound macho but in realty how many players in the modern era are forced to stay when they want out?
This next window is the optimum time to sell him once you get into the last year it's not just a buyers market the player is in total control of the situation
Everton aren't in a position to potentially right off tens of millions for if you force the situation now then yes he might knuckle down but in 12 months he is just as likely to say I am gonna let the contract run down and with it the value to the club. If he stays he will play and if he plays his stock will remain and be free to negotiate a massive signing on fee and indeed wage. Look at what happened to Sol Campbell and Mcmanamn
History tells us that whilst clubs will try and get top dollar for a player entering the last year of a contract there are no guarentees indeed when you look at players that do leave in the last year I suspect you get considerably less than 50% of their earlier value but that is complicated even further when the players value is greater.
So back to the point if he wants out then the likelihood is he will leave in the close season
