Romelu Lukaku

They wouldn't they would just play hardball knowing we have to sell (Koemans words on Barkley only having 1 year on his deal). If he doesn't want to sign a new deal it's daft keeping him and missing out on an extra £40/50 million that could get us 1-3 top quality players.

We have a rich owner now so we don't need that extra cash as we did before. Far better to keep him for at least one more year even if it costs that much. And there is a decent chance by then that we would have CL football if he does stay plus some first class supporting players to make it worth while him staying.

This 100 million asking price for Lukaku is the best everton news I have heard in a long time!

Or Man Utd, who paid £93m just eight months ago...

Basically, we want a record fee.

And rightly so.

He's 23 and the leading scorer in the most competitive league in the world, playing for a team who are currently 7th.

He's replicated this form consistently for the past 5 years now, and he's also a regular scorer at international level, and he's still got 2 years left to run on his current deal, and we have no need to sell.
Quite right, just pointing out that it's the sort of figure RM would pay.

We might lose money selling him next summer instead of this one but prices inflate every year so might not lose out as much as you think in terms of the actual fee.

No one ever, ever, ever is spending £100m on him. No chance.

This could get ugly. Everton have put the marker down now 7th is all but assured and Rom's dummy coming out now wouldn't matter. Rom is losing 70k a week not signing this deal in the hope he gets his dream move back to Chelsea (treat em mean keep em keen) He has a stark choice of signing or going to war in the media with the club making his position untenable. I think Rom's professionalism will work for us and he will sign a new deal once Chelsea get the message and sign Moratta. The other outcome is him not signing and being sold next summer which is a huge gamble and would cost him nearly 5 million in lost wages. The least likely is him being sold this summer in my opinion.

He's been the best signing by Everton possibly ever, and we are almost nothing without him.
Well that's just ridiculous isn't it? Best ever signing? Behave lad. 'We're almost nothing without him'? Do you even read thing grabage you type?!

The lad has been a great signing for us but some perspective please. The club isn't going to suddenly fold if Lukaku leaves.

He has all of my heart.

That showcases what a great all-round finisher he is. Left foot, right foot, head, he really has it all.

If he wasn't currently our player, and this was a highlight reel of a potential new Everton signing, a 23 year old, leading premier league goal scorer, we would all be collectively jizzing our kecks at the possibility of signing him. It baffles me that any Blue could be OK with selling him, even for ridiculous money.

I'm ok with the price tag. I'm less happy if there are conditions allowing him to leave (e.g. failing to get top 4) since he would have a major say in whether we can achieve that!!! We should remain open minded - give him a contract (security both ways) but allow things to be less inflexible.

Yes but the major difference between those two deals, a major difference you know full well, or you should. Is Everton got the fee they demanded, unlike Rooneys price when Bill just caved in.Think You also know that it is very difficult to keep a player when his heart is set on a move away, or his head has been turned. Suarez or Torres as two high profile examples.

...and yet a pledge was made that these players would be kept.

if anyone came close to agreeing to pay 100m for him i would sell in a heartbeat. I'd like to think with the 200 odd scouts we have around the world along with Walsh and Koeman that they would be able to spot a couple of players who could come in and offer something.

At the end of the day if we kept him a year and lost out on 60m that's another couple of quality additions we could be missing out on.

Finally, I just can't be arsed with players who see their future elsewhere and I'm more than happy to flog anyone for top dollar if they don't want to be here because no player is bigger than Everton Football Club.

Ideally he'd sign a contract and I'd be a lot more happier with the situation but even with this current stand off, the only person getting hurt is Lukaku as he's losing around 70k a week by not signing.

Totally agree, problem is though mate, as it currently stands anyway, players good enough to take us to that next level will fall into two categories, ones like Lukaku who see us as part of a stepping stone process to get to that constant CL and title challenging/winning team, or ones have already been through that period and the move didn't work out for whatever reason - like Scheiderlin.

The key is to get enough of both atvtge club at the same point in time to turn the club into what the first group aspire too, spurs probably a good example of that as have been Athletico recently.
