Romelu Lukaku

what is interesting ( if true I might add ) was that he says he was actually due to sign the deal and had a meeting arranged then on the day he had a change of heart. That would tally up with the likes of Jim White, Joyce, Echo all claiming he was about to sign the extension.
If that's the case and he did turn the contract down so late in the day, I reckon he was personally tapped up and not even through his agent telling him not to.

This could very well be the case. He has been tapped. ...but I still cant see it to be Chelsea.

As much as Law is unreliable and sensationalist, if Lukaku is going to leave then at this point it does no harm to get some sort of bandwagon rolling.

If Chelsea want him, the pressure is on them to deliver, particularly as they tried to play hardball with Stones in the same situation, lost, and saw him join a rival club a year later.

I think he is off come what may so the more interest and fuss, the better for us. The aim is to simply get as much as we can for him. If Chelsea failed with €80m + addons last year, then the ball is back in their court.

Made PFA Team of the Year - rightly so. Be an outcry if he hadn't. I cant remember many Everton players in Premiership era having done that.

On another point, why are these things done before the end of the season?

If Lukaku is going to leave then it has to be sorted early in the window. We can get top dollar for him. If he wins the Golden Boot, then it will only push his value up further and also his profile. Surely Koeman and Walsh have identified good players we can get with the money. We can have a good go at the Champion's League places next season, if everything is organised and in place early doors.

I'm starting to think we should just let him run his contract down and let him go for free if he doesn't re-sign. Two years of his goals is worth more than whatever the fee from selling him would get us.

Don't you think that kind of approach concerning young ambitious players may see us shoot ourselves in the foot in the longer term?

absolutely not. if he plays well and leaves on a free he'd be in line for an absolutely massive payday considering there'd be no transfer fee.

What we can't do is what the rs did with Sterling, complaining to the media that he won't sign a contract etc. Just be professional about it, it's about raising the stature of the club and refusing to sell your best player is right in line with that.

I think that would be a mistake. His goals haven't actually resulted in anything more than the club was achieving before he arrived.

We cannot consider letting his contract run down, however unpalatable the money side of the game is, we just cannot afford to let our prize asset walk away for nothing.

The question of how much another 1-2 seasons worth of goals from him would be worth with potential UCL qualification is both valid and interesting, but unfortunately we haven't achieved anything with his goals to date and have no guarantees into the future.

It's a calculated risk if he stays on without an extension for another year, we would still pull in a significant fee but not nearly on the lines of what we could get this summer. The other factor that would change things would be if we did pull off a UCL spot in 2017/18.

I think he will be allowed to go, I trust Moshiri to make it difficult for buyers and get the best possible deal and allow the proceeds to be reinvested fully. Even with his goals, I'm sick to death of this as it is. Some certainty would be good.

A fanstaic way to approach things if only it worked out in such a way.

There is absolutely no way that he will be allowed to run his contract down. The optimism time to sell him is in the next window with his value decking at a rate

Good points. Factor in the effect an unhappy player would have on the dressing room as well. We need to start going beyond this mentality of desperately holding on to Lukaku and thinking that Everton will die if he goes. Yes, he is good but with the money reinvested, we can go onto greater things. He doesn't want to be here anymore. Boo f*****g hoo. Get over it and move on.

WHO ARE WE?!!!

Yeah, that's right!
