Romelu Lukaku

I don't really get the Belgium dislike of Lukaku. Yeah, he's not perfect. No one is claiming he is. Simple fact is that he's one of the top strikers in the world at age 23. Maybe in a few years, he'll improve even more and help bring Belgium some trophies. They seriously need better coaching though.

I know Lukaku's histrionics on the pitch can be annoying. He thinks he's open all the time and starts waving his arms around in disgust if he doesn't get the pass. That's hardly unique to him though. I think the top strikers need to have a certain amount of arrogance and confidence on the pitch. It would be nice if he didn't whinge as much though.

I am a Belgian and I go to the internationals :bye::bye:
My impression is that the main reason is that he played for Anderlecht, so the Club Brugge and Standard fans hate him.
He used to bully them for fun you know..

I don't think that's the main reason. Plenty of others played for rival teams and they don't get booed (cf. Kompany et al). I think he just frustrates them from time to time. Also Standard was dominant in the time he played in Belgium; he only won the title once (remember the ridiculous test matches because they had even points? Enorme klucht). I don't approve booing in any way and I think he's doing much better lately.

@RomanReigns and @TheBigIguana Yep; he silenced the crowd in his celebration; stuff like that happens. When it comes down to it maybe it's just like with Everton; he's sometimes just frustrating to watch and then he does brilliant stuff. As a result sometimes a portion of the crowd wants Batshuayi (clinical finisher when he plays regularly and a bit of crowd favourite because of his social media antics) or Origi (runs a lot) or Benteke (good hold-up play and when he has confidence an excellent finisher).

Anyhow Martinez has said that RL is now the number one striker so they'll have to behave.

Its going to be hard for the lad this summer

He will be waiting on all these big clubs to come in for him, again, like the last 3 summers

It would be nice if he actually learned to attack the ball in the area instead of waiting for it to come to him and then waving his arms about when he doesn't get it. If he learned to do that (like Andy Gray) he really would be 'phenom....' Oops, a world class player.

True, he's a great finisher but he doesn't compete for headers, or tackle properly and puts in minimal effort in terms of yards covered.

When you play like that and you're scoring people will forgive you. When you're not scoring and fans feel like you're not putting in the effort they'll get annoyed.

Your comment brought back sudden memories of Andy Grays hatrick against Fortuna Sittard.

The Lukaku thread on Sunday after the game will be like this...

If Rom plays well and scores.. "oh he only turned up n played well to impress Chelsea and he wants to go to them"

If Rom doesn't score and plays poor.. " Typical didn't turn up cos he supports Chelsea and doesn't want to cock up there title, and wants to be in Chelsea colours next season"

yep, it's a classic 'damned if you do, damned if you don't' scenario/imbroglio...

Quite a short thread then, what happened to the rest of it?

We turned down a £60million offer from Chelsea last summer Ernie...

He's on course to win the golden boot, having netted 20+ goals in all comps for the 4th time in 5 seasons at age 23.

He's rightly in the team of the year and his all-round game has improved drastically under Koeman.

So yes, there'll probably be a fair few teams coming in for him.

The only thing in doubt is whether any team will meet our (rightfully lofty) valuation.
