Romelu Lukaku

But generally, his goals against the lesser teams are like the 3rd or 4th we've put passed them (i.e. we have the 3 points anyway). I'm not knocking his goalscoring abilities but my qualm with him is his bad performances against big sides - he hardly ever turns up for them, but then wants to play for them. The last match I can think of against a big side where he played well, was that 3-3 derby a couple of years ago.

I agree but I would say he played well against chelsea in the FA cup last season.

..as I've said previously, i don't buy into this 'only scores goals against lesser teams' criticism. The fact is he's a top drawer finisher. The reality is we create less chances against the better teams.

Whilst that is true, I still think his record against the top 6 for us is still fairly alarming for a player of his calibre.

We bring Coleman back from the dead or get a winger in and the goals will come against the bigger teams. If Rom is doing anything wrong, it is that he can be quite static sometimes. He needs to check a little more and get out wide every now and then to separate himself from the man-marking, but he still gets the goals in though so we can't really complain. We have to find a solution to the Coleman dilemma though because we are not nearly as prolific without him. We cannot go into next season with the same setup out wide.

..I think it more underlines that he is primarily an outstanding finisher. He's not particularly the type who scores goals from nothing (like he did against Chelsea in the cup), or go to war with CBs and influence games when we're under the cosh.

He's no Suarez, he's not an Ibrahimovic who are rounded strikers who turn negative situations into goals. I watched United in Europe last week where they missed a bagful of chances and thought of Lukaku. Give him chances against top opposition and he'll score but he's not the complete deal.

For me he never will be the complete deal. His heading ability for a big man is poor.he scores headed "tap ins" or when like the Barkley cross v Leicester it's pin pointed for him to score, but I've yet to see him win a header when being closely physically challenged. The reported comments from Garbutt were telling.

..I suspect you're right but there's no doubt he can put away a chance.

Yup, also he occupies defenders more than any striker I've seen for a while. Get a good signing playing off him and the goals will flow. Mata would have been the job. ah well.

Doesn't create chances on his own, only scores tap-ins blablabla.. I am getting so tired of reading all this stupid comments..
Let me refresh your minds!

He certainly can,and he is effective, but if you add his inconsistency in simple trapping and laying off the ball to his lack of strength in the air,it's doubtful he'll ever be one of the true top strikers in the World. In saying that I'll be happy if he stays another couple of seasons.:)

..yep, as I pointed out he's not the complete deal.

He'll stick a chance away against anyone, but his performances against tough opponents are embarrassing. It's like having a kid fresh out of the academy up front.

He made Rojo and Lovren look like Terry and Carvalho a few weeks back.

I see we are doing the "hes not very good anyway" stance.

Whatever it takes to swallow it lads.

It certainly made me feel a little better about it all yesterday.

But as soon as we have Daryl Murphy sat on 1 goal this time next season it won't feel quite the same I fear.
