Romelu Lukaku

By selling Barkley this season would that make it more likely Rom would stay knowing he will be gone come next summer if he doesn't sign another contract. Could that be a tactic used by the club?

...I watched United in the first leg against Celta Vigo and they missed some glorious chances. Watching that I could see why they might want Lukaku, he's a top drawer finisher. I don't see Griezeman being the CF, he's one of those players who get on the end of things. Those type of players are brilliant at being in the right place at the right time.
But would Jose play both of them at the same time
If he goes to form it's 4/2/3/1 or 4/3/3 with one CF
Unless he used Griezman as part of the attacking 3 in the first formation and as a wide man in the second.
He certainly has the work rate for it

..I think he would play them both. Rashford looks a key player going forward, I like him lots but I agree with somebody who suggested he's not a natural goalscorer. I think he's a scorer of great goals rather than a great goalscorer. I can see Griezeman playing in the same side as Lukaku in much the same way as Rashford played with Ibrahimovic.

Possibly.

I prefer the narrative that has remained constant, ever since Koeman came over. The fact was, he asked for assurances from Southampton entering the final year of his contract, (after doing a good job). They were not forthcoming. We paid top dollar to convince him that we will give him the resources to match his ambition.

He has seemingly invested a lot of time in Ross. We can only assume a new contract was a decent one, so its all a bit odd.

The football drums everywhere say the atmosphere around the club is bang on 100% positive. Cant get my head round it really. Unless, like you allude to, Koeman has had enough of the lad, and is happy that he has replacement(s) lined up.

Bit sad really.

Something doesn't add up, back in Europe, up until a few weeks ago we were right in the hunt for 5th if not higher. Surely add a few more faces with a complete summer, avoid the post October meltdown and we have a good shot of anything.

Unless Koeman has told Ross he can't guarantee him a starting place next year and in which case Ross thinks it would be easier sitting on Spurs or Arsenals bench instead of ours. It is a puzzle all right.

Just hope Rom stays!!

Quite.

Its not like Ross's star is burning that brightly is it? Had a decent season on balance, but not Ali esq.

But he has a difficult year, all things considered.

Oh ffs, just realised this is still the Rom thread.

Cocking state of me tonight.

Rom? Yeah, reckon he will stay. Might not like it, but just cant see the mega deal we want, and the mega club he wants, getting matched up.

Don't think so, didn't Raiola sign lukkau after he signed for us so wouldn't have had any say on the contract deals.
Love to know how much the get out clause was, I reckon 40/50 mill making it easy for the fat rat to get his client a move

Yep it seems that the new contact was favorable to Raiola and lukkau, the question is did we reject the terms which causes lukkau outburst by announcing he not signing a new contract
