As an aside, we should start fining players for comments to the press when on international duty. It happens far too often and they are under contract to the club.

It's telling they never open their gobs to English media, particularly the Belgian bells.

This kind of interview whereby media people talk to players about their domestic situation while on international duty is abhorrent, but the players should be a lot smarter and refuse to comment.

The club needs to employ a genuinely media savvy person to teach the players how to handle media situations, not that useless article Darren Griffiths !!

And maybe it is time that clubs wrote it into player contracts that discussing domestic football if/when away on international duty is unacceptable and would put them in breach on contract and liable for humungous fines.

Isn't the only luck involved that Chelsea were too dumb to keep hold of Rom?

Once that happened, and I'm not suggesting that wasn't serendipitous, Martinez took excellent advantage of it. Similar to how a striker may be gifted a slack backpass by a defender but still has to have the skill to get past other defenders and score the goal.

Just saying "Martinez got lucky with Rom" seems to imply Martinez had absoultely nothing to do with him ending up at the club.
Highly agree with that. A different manager would never have sold lukaku, everyone knew how good he was going to be. But considering the same manager sold the player of the year two years running and a recently 50 million pound midfielder in that time also , shows how much jose planned for the future on.

The difference now is at least we will have money to replace him with a higher quality player than we are used to in the past. Especially when you look at Torres, aguero , drogba to a few. All signed before they got to the big club, he'll even Suarez. We need to be signing that level of striker to replace Rom with

It doesn't imply that at all. It's a true fact, he went after one player and got offered a different...I'm struggling to see what's not true in that situation, it was luck that Chelsea weren't prepared to release a 29 year old journeyman in favour of a promising youngster.

Yes we were very lucky Chelsea agreed to a £28 mil transfer.

Bayern Munich have spent over £20m on a player 7 times in their history.

They spent $50m on a 23 year old Javi Martinez in 2012. Perhaps they will want to make a statement by spending big again and breaking their club transfer record once more.

Perhaps Bayern Munich is going to be Lukaku's destination based on his father's comments today.

They have Lewandowski and surely Aubamayang at Dortmund would be more of a likely target than Lukaku for Bayern, wouldn't be any more expensive either.

Martinez really should be sweating reading these reports.

Lukaku's goals have single-handedly saved this season from being a complete and utter disaster.

Losing him in the summer will be a huge loss for the team (although not unexpected) and Martinez should be trying everything in his power to convince Rom to stay.

He has media duties he has to perform.

He is asked direct questions from a demanding media.

It's not like over here were press is controlled and local press wont dare ask a question that could prevent future access.

He does not have to answer questions about domestic football when on international duty.
He could simply say he will not comment as the question is not cognisant to the present situation.
It's very simple really and the media bloodhounds need to be rebuffed.

People need to calm down a bit.

Rom wants CL football. Assuming that is literally the case, lets look at who he could likely sign for:

Leicester - no chance.
Spurs - no chance.
Arsenal - extremely slim to no chance, based on their lack of spending big.
Man City - possibly, if they really wanted him they have the funds to meet our high asking price.
Man Utd - slim to no chance, as they probably won't be in the CL.
Chelsea - no chance for multiple reasons; not in the CL next season.

That just leaves clubs abroad. Assuming his asking price is huge - and it should be, given Spurs sold Bale to Real Madrid for £85m and the value of everything has increased since then.

Bayern - maybe, but will they be willing to spend the £60m-£80m+?
Real Madrid - possibly.
Barcelona - possibly.
PSG - possibly, but it's a joke domestic league.

LOL...or more Lukaku's

Keep on melting mate...it's high quality entertainment.

Or more Lukakus, Deulofeus, Becics, McCarthys...

Unfortunately fellas there aren't that many Lukakus out there. Was hardly an undiscovered gem at £28m

And if we do find one will they really want to join a 12th place club.

As for the rest Besic and Del can't get a game and McCarthy gets slated on here regularly (wrongly in my opinion)

I've already agreed that it was good fortune that Chelsea were willing to release him on loan. Where we disagree is that I believe there is still credit to be given to Martinez both for getting the initial loan over the line and then signing him permanently whereas you appear reluctant to do that.

Luck often plays a part in transfers - Martinez was after Stones and John was driving to Wigan to sign a contract and then Moyes's scouts persuaded him, since he had money left over in his January budget, to make an offer and Stones ended up at Everton and eventually under Martinez!
