Romelu Lukaku

Ridiculous. For a kick off we have a manager who advised Lukaku to leave, and we have a club that have done nothing to stop the PR attack on Lukaku to sign (that Sky sports special programme was a disgrace the way they ambushed Lukaku on it...as just one example).

We had a manger who stated that Lukaku could play for Barca and the PR attack on Lukaku was obviously not going to change his mind considering his agent had advised the world he was 99% done prior to this.

Negotiations were in private between the club and his representatives, professional and under raps. Club have done nothing wrong at all

Why are we as a club letting this play out in public?
I dont think we are.

I think he will be getting fined for it, but for him its fine as it only going to make it easier for him to leave.

Just got to get on with it now, he's been disrespectful, once we've secured 7th and Europe drop him for Calvert lewin or someone else.

He's been calculated anyway I feel in everything he's done,

Hope he goes to juventus or Bayern, he does deserve a go at champions league and I'm sure he will score a shed load.

Just handled stupidly. Then again he is 23.

Our problem?
It's being reported Lukaku doesn't want to sign a contract with Everton.

Disappointing. Would be worse if he had an Everton tattoo and / or had pledged he was a blue (adopted or otherwise).

This manifests into a number of fears - about underachievement, that he won't sign with us, that contract talks could turn nasty, things become unprofessional, that he downs tools, others want to leave or dont want to come, that Moshiri doesn't have the money and on and on and on.

Fears are inevitable for our fan base because of the recent history of struggling, being unable to compete, the culture of the club and the overarching mindset of the fans is still that we are smaller, inferior and destined for disappointment when on the precipice of positive change.

Overreaction is the default position because with every run of good form and rising of hope, one bump in the road is able to derail our belief and we become a group of depressaholics again.

Attack is then the best form of being defensive and we get all bitter and divisive, using humour and self depreciation as a coping mechanism for dealing with it all.

Now is the time for a change though.
A change in culture.
A time to believe that the club is on the rise and that we are going to be successful.

Nil Satis Nisi Optimum has to be a belief that we hold ourselves to as well as our club.

Let's looks at Facts -
Lukaku has been in the form of his life.
Scoring shed loads of goals for Everton.
2 seasons left on contract after this one.
2 weeks ago said he was happy.
Never said he loves the blues and wanted to stay for ever.
Has the kind of ambition we need every player to have.
Wants the same as us - Champions league and trophies.
Still doing everything the club is asking of him acting professionally.
We would get a lot more money than we paid if he left this summer.
If he stays and performs we benefit.
If he stays and doesn't perform his stock reduces.
Holding firm on contract negotiations benefits the club in every way.
Losing Lukaku at any point would be disappointing but as with other player losses we would cope and evolve.

Fears aren't real it's what we do with them.

And here is where we can do now.

Boo. Or not boo, but not remain warm or lukewarm to his performances and achievements in a blue shirt. Show apathy for fear that we'll look like clowns when he has us off and departs for CL club X.

Or

Show class. Be a new breed of Evertonians in the way that we back Everton. That we back and celebrate our players and elevate ourselves to greater heights.
Lets back our leading goal scorer.
Let's appreciate his achievements like his next game could be his last so that even if he wins the Champions league with 10 different clubs in the next 10 seasons that he will always differentiate the love he had from us as something superior and special.

Ours is a family club, the people's club, and to be successful we stick together.

This is just cult like response. The club are at least 50% wrong is this lad is disappearing out the club.

What makes you think he's calling the shots? The media are shooting for him.Really, people need to take a step back....
No
No
No

His own words , nothing said by anyone else.
Could he not have kept that till the end of the season ?
We've known for some time he would move on ffs its less than 6 weeks ago the transfer window closed , couldnt he have done it then either.
This is all about timing this fella and he picked the wrong time.
All his own doing , nobody else's.

But ye lets give him a little sympathy hey.

There is no point in getting wound up about it thats modern football unless your one of the top half dozen teams in the world you will always get agents/players wanting away for more money.
The only thing we can do is win the Prem next year and the Champions league the year after.

Tomorrow I will post the answer to climate change and the destruction of natural resources

Nope, not one bit. Offered him a contract months ago making him the highest paid player in our history, almost doubling his wage and kept all negotiations private and tight under wraps.

The cult like response is from the person who is determined to push all fault onto the club, in any chance they get. It's quite strange in all honesty, and worrying
