Romelu Lukaku

Lukaku has always struck me as a player who doesn't quite have the right attitude (currently) to reach his potential.

Quite a few forwards have been like that over the years (Anelka & Adebayor stand out), and I think you have to really be prepared to sacrifice your lifestyle to your profession to reach that level.

I don't think Mourinho really cultivates personal development.

Sort of. It's not that Lukaku has the wrong attitude, because I think he genuinely wants to improve and is a natural 'winner'. He has a world class attitude in terms of the self-belief in being the best.

However... he doesn't channel it in the right areas. He seems to totally fail to recognise what he needs to improve to be a genuine top class player. He says the right things in public interviews but I've seen no improvement in his off the ball play and general technique since his days at West Brom.

So he has the 'potential' attitude to be top drawer, but hasn't applied it correctly. He's arrogant for the wrong reasons.

Don't miss him myself.

I'm happy with Cenk Tosun, Oumar Niasse and Dominic Calvert Lewin.

Especially the latter two, they run loads like. Loads.

Not sure on Cenk yet - my verdict as an Evertonian on him will be determined by how much he runs on the pitch and how polite he is off it.

Why are we still discussing a player who left 6 months ago?

Because it's fascinating in terms of how people view him as a footballer. Take away the fact he played for us and it'd still be fascinating - the difference between people who think he's actually world class and those who think he found his level here, or honestly at West Brom.

It highlights a distinct difference in how people view football. I see those who rate Lukaku extremely highly as having a very simplistic 'Roy of the Rovers' understanding of how football works, whereas they in turn will see me in thinking he's mediocre as not understanding how important goals are in the modern game.

It's natural for people to talk about him. He's a polarising figure in terms of his ability.

I was just about to say that Lukaku improved so much on his aerial ability, so why the hell do they never cross the ball? They struggle because they try to play everything in the middle and it congests the pitch. They get a cross in and "OMG WE SCORED HOW WE DO DAT"

Same old, same old.

Lukaku loves piping down them football hipsters.

Not really.

Lukaku must think Christmas has arrived late with Sanchez coming in though. The perfect signing for him - does the legwork and the movement that Rom is incapable of and leaves him to do what he does best; being a luxury player but a predatory finisher.

The perception of him will shift over the next few months as goals disguise shortcomings once more - if he doesn't fill his boots with Pogba, Sanchez et al in support then he's even worse than I originally thought.

Again, absolutely no surprise he's scoring, but also no surprise that he's been terrible throughout this game before scoring. He's an asset and liability in equal measure - a goal against Huddersfield at home is his bread and butter; not turning up against Spurs is also his bread and butter.

Yes, we know you originally posted that entirely for this predictable situation.
