Romelu Lukaku

@Tubey you are one of my favourites on here, you are quite sensible and always post interesting comments but you bizarre dislike of Lukaku has always bothered me, it’s like a blind man refusing a lapdance because you can’t see her face.

we had arguably the best striker of a generation smashing players and goals all over the show and you have routinely pointed out he didn’t do it against the big clubs which is a valid point but you seem to miss the obvious point we are utter turd — and this is where the blind man metaphor applies — we didn’t have the capability of choice, we took what we could grab, and (potentially?) drove him out cos he didn’t scored worldies against elite opposition, and now we are still not having replaced him with a £1.5m ex- Sheff UTD taking his place, and unfairly barracked every single week.
We didn't though did we? He wanted to leave for a long time before he did.

No kidding. But we weren't even really beating the small teams when he was here, were we? We finished 11th two years in a row when he was with us

But I thought that was all on Martinez, you can't blame too much of that on Lukaku. And this he didn't score against top 6 is a hard one because its Everton when do we ever really have a go against the top 6, none of our players score against them because sadly we are abit crap and flap it

I don't think many of us wanted him to go due to his scoring record and the hope that one day he would magically find a first touch and a way of bettering the top defenders, but when he forced the move, a lot of us were not that upset as we could see his flaws.

He is just a flat track bully and our celling with him in the side was 5th/6th at best.

I hate this thread with a passion. Surely the Rom lovers are just singing his praises to be WUMs?

He wanted to leave, what more do you need to let go? If we ignore that, anyone who thinks Rom is the answer to our problems is a) deluded or b) has memory loss issues. The basic principle as far as I can see is people agree Lukaku only scores against the weaker sides but hey that's what we need right now? Well that might be a reasonable response if people said after we finished 7th during his last season "if only we can do this for another 10 years and I'll be happy". No one was pleased with our record against the top teams and heaven forbid we might win a derby if he wasn't in the pocket of the defenders. Yes it seems better than now but wasn't great at the time and wouldn't be acceptable in the future.

There are strikers out there that will score against the top sides as well as the crap ones, we just need to find him.

It's not even that for me - it's that Lukaku didn't just not score against top sides; he didn't do anything. It was playing with 10 men.

That was the much bigger problem.

I’m not getting involved in the ‘not against the top 6’ debate. It just annoys me when people don’t recognise that he wanted out.

You can't possibly be serious?
