Romelu Lukaku

worked hard in every game, our top premier league scorer, raised the game of those around him, his attitude was fine.
;)... But in reality... :dodgy: Scored his goals, and boy would I like a bit of that now, but “worked hard in every game”, “raised the game of those around him”, and “his attitude was fine”? Really?! Never missed an opportunity to talk about his next move. He still does it now so that’s not an Everton thing, but on balance, we achieved more with more limited strikers than Lukaku.

Sure on the field it was fine. But you have to admit continously hinting at a move is the same as constucting it yourself. The whole well "I want to go" and then denying he said that or it was out of context etc.... he would follow up with I want to stay routine

I felt like from day one he was gunning for bigger things.

People always blame his agent fully. I know if I had an agent always driving a move that I was unsure of or didnt want then because I was happy. I'd fire him or her.

Of course he was always looking to go. As will every good player that comes here until we are good enough to compete and fulfill ambitions.

The London clubs like Chelsea, arsenal and maybe spurs can possibly get away with not challenging for titles and still keep top players, but even then only if they pay enough.

united can too - again as long as they pay enough - but Otherwise, if you’re not winning things or looking like you’re getting there, those players that are at the higher level will only be here til they get the move they want.

we need to make sure we use those players to get better, and that’s why it’s doubly frustrating when tonnes of money is spent of crap players at the same time.

Nothing to do with money, we can match the likes of spurs arsenal in transfer fees and wages.

The reason they leave is to have a chance of winning trophies. Our aim for the last few seasons has been 7th place and we've not even managed that.

Yes, the touted 7th Place trophy* might hold coveted cachet in the minds of the Everton Board/executive, but it doesn’t really cut the mustard in retaining decent players.

*also know as 7th Place atrophy

Reference to the London clubs was that their location in the capital and everything that brings gives them a bit extra to keep hold of players. Nothing more.
