Romelu Lukaku's Expectations

Cant see Falcao leaving Monaco, only because he got injured, think he'll want to give them a full season.
Suarez to Real, but apart from that, i can genuinely see all of that happening mate.
I guarantee he will leave Monaco this summer.

Unless he enjoys playing in front of 7k fans.

He'll go back to Chelsea after a so-so World Cup, struggle to get any game time alongside their new £50 million pound superstar, become disillusioned with Jose, come back here in Jan and fire us into the Champions league then sign for £15 mill next summer.

Job done.

stranger things have happened, so not the worst out come...but I think he will be loaned out to a foreign team to gain a bit of varied experience

Possibly mate, there's just no way of knowing what Chelsea/Jose are gonna do and with only two years left on his deal I think they will either have to play him or flog him, my money is on the latter.

Jose will want a world class striker for next season, he wont take a risk on Lukaku and wont make him his number 1 striker.

We'll buy him off Chelsea for £20 million but they get a buy back option once a year dropping in price every summer.

Maybe.

Will be a bit of a shock for Lukaku to go from Martinez's warmth to Mourinho "happy one" management.

His good friend & Belgium teammate Kevin de Bruyne had a pretty horrid experince with Jose before he left and Hazard seems none too happy either.

All in all think Lukaku will be keen for a move out of Chelsea, just not sure it will be here.

He has two years left, has played one, perhaps two games for Chelsea in the whole time he has been there. Mourinho obviously wants a more developed/experienced forward at all times (talking about keeping Torres, the signing of Eto'o this year, signing Costa!) Clearly an ambitious lad, but if Chelsea can make some money off a young forward who still needs work in several areas (many already noted in this thread), they'll gladly sell him and pick up the players that Mourinho wants. That's why they've picked up about 300 youth players and started loaning them out. It's a way around FFP.

And am I the only one who has noticed that for such a big, strong forward, he's sometimes awful at playing with his back to goal/defenders? Gets pushed over or knocked off the ball a little too easily at times. I think Lukaku will be leaving, but the question is if Bobby can convince him to leave for us.

His passing reaction after the game yesterday was that of someone leaving, would be ace if we could muster up the cash to get him in - but I really don't think Mourinho is going to let a striker go who's got 33 goals in the past 2 seasons go.

Nice having him, but we need to work on a replacement.

Looks like Chelsea/Mourinho don't fancy him
He surely won't want to be a bench warmer.
Chelsea will be reluctant to sell to domestic "rivals".
I don't see Madrid or Barca coming in for him.
If he has a poor World Cup I can't see any big Champs League teams going for him.

I reckon he'd be as lucky to have us as we would to have him!

Thinking about it, aka speculation of red top newspaper proportions.

Jose won't loan him out to a top CL club, so the next thing is a uefa qualifier, which leads us to ( from romelu's perspective at least )...why not us... then again we're maybe a bit too good/close for comfort now.

Sell him off? you could maybe not have full control where he goes to if money comes into it and it might come back to bite you in the bum
Jose 'could' set a fee high enough that we could afford it...just... which might hold us back in other dealings.

Unless the 'perfect' solution ( for Jose ) comes up he could languish in Chelsea's bench warmers.

* holds overheating head, makes vow to switch off brain until well after World Cup.

If I was Jose I think I'd be quite pleased with Lukaku's progress so far, and I'd be wanting to see what this kid can do in Europe.... but I'd also be looking to win the CL. Would I make that at attempt with a 20 year-old with no European experience? Perhaps not. But I'd be considering the lad's potential development over the next two to three years and thinking "He could be THE guy, in the near future."

I wonder if Jose will offer Lukaku a contract extension and say "Now go out on loan to a Europa League contender, let's see how you handle the next step."

Several posts have mentioned his poor first touch. In some games, he has indeed been woeful in this regard, worse than a pub player. In other matches, however, he has had all the skill of a world-beater. Against Hull on Sunday, he was excellent- almost like Saha at his best.

Can anyone explain such an unusual variability in basic football skills? The cynic in me says that he is trying to influence a potential transfer, for example playing badly to ensure he can escape from Chelsea.

In reply to some of the opinions expressed elsewhere in this thread, I say he is a must-buy at £20m- make it £22m if Levy sticks his oar in.

He's young and his form is a bit erratic mate, simple as that combined with fatigue and it explains a lot of his first touch mistakes away, early season his touch looked better than it has for a whilst, only thing explaining that is being a bit jaded by a long season really

People criticising his play are being harsh. 15 goals in the league from a 20 year old striker who has had an injury. If he was ours and came from the streets we would be a god on here. If we somehow signed him I believe. Champions league would be inevitable. He is due a 20 PLUS goal season. That kinda striker almost gets you in top four on its own.
