Ronald Koeman discussion

3/4? Not when you're going to release players from the existing squad...and we will.

Almost certainly Lukaku and Stones will need replacing. The GK situation has NOT been resolved. So right there is three new faces even before you start strengthening.

Sorry mate, you're setting this new regime a very low bar to get over. Remember that this was supposed to be our reboot? Doesn't look like it right now, not by a long chalk.

The bar moves per season.

As I said to @The Esk countless times. It's at least a three year project. Not one Summer.

Your framing this debate all wrong mate. It's not the difference between evolution or revolution, it's the difference between keeping pace and falling further off the pace.

Make no mistake, without a big injection of cash into this squad we will struggle to get back up to the levels of a couple of seasons back never mind push for trophies. This manager needs backing.

We did need a massive overhaul of the squad and needed 7/8 players. That was at the start of the window (GK, 2x CH with stones leaving, back up RB, CM, AM and back up striker to Rom). However it is foolish a) to suggest we can get all these deals done in the time left (given the trouble we've endured getting any transfer over the line) and b) trying to integrate this number of players into the team, when the league has started would be crazy. Therefore I think we'd get 4 in before the window ends CH, CM, AM and back up striker. This should be the bare minimum and failure to do so will result in a slow start to our campaign I fear.

The rebuilding of the team is going to take time and effort. Some players will hopefully improve their performances / team ethic, others will need shipping out asap.

I see similarities as to when Moyes took over from Smith in regards to player influence. Martinez had allowed the players to dictate and that always leads to problems. It took Moyes a few seasons to whittle out the likes of Radzinski, Blomqvist (sp) etc and we lost Rooney in this period of instability but came out of it a better team.

We may need to go backwards before we can truly move forward on the pitch.

Structure appears to be being implemented for the clubs long term future so we just need to trust those in the management area of our club to get us functioning as a unit again instead of a rabble of spoilt brats and egos who believe they are better than their actual abilities (Roberto has a lot to answer for in regards to this).

we're already off the pace because of the disastrous last 2 years that have left players wanting out and a set of players as individuals and collectively bereft of any confidence. We need new players no doubt, but we need the right players, if they take a little longer to get, so be it, we've spent a while now as a club getting the wrong players (in the main) we need to realise for the type of player we are after, we as a club may not be their first choice, but in turn, they may not get their first choice, for example I think Mata wants to stay at UTD, that won't be his choice, it'll be a choice made for him once UTD finish their incomings.

Patience is key, you had it with Martinez more than any member on this entire forum, yet you're seeming long casting big doubts over Moshiri 3 1/2 weeks prior to his first transfer window closing.

Unlike most businesses etc football has a clear defined point to judge on investment, if by the start of the season and maybe moreso the end of the window, we have not significantly improved the squad - and much as it shouldnt matter - it does - we dont have a very sizeable net spend, then questions need to be asked about how everything was handled and IF we really tried as hard as we could to fulfill the stated ambitions of 'making a huge statement'

He won't resign, for one thing he'd be in serious breach of contract and his reputation would take a battering. He didn't get the job because things were great at Everton, before he arrived. Yes its disappointing that the signings haven't happened, yet. But it can't just be because we haven't tried. We're trying to shop in the market were the Champions League teams are. It took City a couple of years to get to the situation were they signed the bigger names. Every club in the league has money, now. Transfer deals are now such big business deals that they take weeks not days to sort. I think a lot of deals start before the last season even finishes. The club has under gone a massive change, in the back room and at ownership level.

Then we go to the players, we already have. They've had three years of being under a Manager, who wanted to play in a way that's only possible to play if you have Barcelona's first eleven. A manager who didn't have a plan B, I could go on. It will take time for the players to adapt to the new managers way of doing things. Even Jose at Man Utd, did an interview saying it would be easier to have a full squad of new players than, get his team to change its been coached to play over the past few seasons. (On talk sport earlier). Ronald has also had to assess his squad and work out who needs changing. The fact he hasn't given five players squad numbers, show's he isn't that worried about squad numbers and the club isn't worried about the money. They are effectively getting paid just to sit around at the moment.

I'm sure (I hope) that things will look a bit better by the end of the month.

Still seems we're holding out for the best deal. Which is smart until we end up with nothing. Seems we're afraid to accept that the market has massively inflated.

Then mate you pay what you need to in order to 'convince' those players to come, right now we are trying to compete with more established teams by offering 'slightly' above what they are or would offer, shortb term you need to basically act in a way that defies normal business logic and maybe thats the downfall, Moshiri is a very astute businessman whose likely not used to paying more than something is genuinely worth, but in football and to make that leap between where we are and where we want to be, then sometimes its the only way to do it initially
