Ronald Koeman discussion

After the Watford game I don't think one poster said we would get 6 points from the next 3 games. 1 point was the most common answer. And while it may not have been pretty 6 points is a very good return. I think he is starting to see who are good enough and who are not. January will tell an awful lot about where koeman sees us goin

We have been dicked once all season, every other game we have at least competed, the football has been utterly horrific at times and the results quite bad, but we still sit in 7th for some utterly obscure reason, gives us something to kick on from if we string a few results together.

If we can hit a bit of form the football will come, but for now as you say the main thing is getting a few Ws on the board, makes a big difference.

Just an interesting stat, after he took over from Rodgers, Klopps first 18 games - 26 points btw, exactly the same record as Koeman so far.

We were able to spend in January however we didn't start spending until we received the Stones money and ended up making a small profit, just saying like....

Suspicious minds and all. Targets were made in the summer but Everton was not a big enough pull hence the failure to get the right players in. Moshiri apparently had a hissy fit and it seems we are now more prepared for January even though I suspect we will not get all our first choice targets because of our Stature. I am sure we will try but also have a plan B. We have to be prepared and we have to act quickly and I believe we will.

Hope so, time will tell.

While we are sitting in 7th place in the table we aren't really looking like we are going to kick on and challenge those ahead of us. We look more like a side who are doing the best we can with the players we have. I am not sure the Everton of today are a significantly more attractive proposition than the one back in the summer.
This transfer window will tell us a lot about the club and the manager. Has our ambition moved on, have we really learned anything from the last window debacle.
We need to identify the right targets, achievable targets. I am all for going after world beaters but we have to have a realistic chance of securing them, or more importantly we have to have a back-up plan. If we have identified a weakness then we have to be able to fix that problem, not merely go after a player who will turn us down and then we sit and wring our hands because we tried, but failed.
We can all see weaknesses in the current squad, we know we need replacements and cover, at this stage I would prefer us to go after players who may not be league winners but who would improve us over the medium term. We have been on a downward trajectory for quite a while, it is going to take more than one window to get us back up there.

I didn't realise that at all. Definately makes you think.

Might even get my hopes up for a derby win in the next few years based on that :)

I guess the narrative between the two clubs is vastly different too - our poor run is mostly ignored, although it was starting to get more attention in the run-up to the Arsenal game. The media must have decided to give Klopp a free pass last season, I don't recall anything being said about a poor/modest/underwhelming start. One of their darlings you see.

Great post. The likes of schneiderlin, Keane and amavi (but not at 25m) would improve us no doubt and are realistic signings. But to challenge the top 6 at present is going to be so difficult.

If we buy well in January and kick on, a good run to cement a European place may persuade players to come and improve us further.

I think this is the only way to go. We firstly need to get ourselves into a position that we can compete in the Europa Cup without detriment to our league form. If we can establish a European profile while still competing in the league and cups then we start to become attractive to the better players.
This won't be done on the back of a January transfer window. The best we can hope for is to come out of the window stronger than we went in. For this to happen we need to ship on some of out dead wood and bring in a mixture of experience and potential. Probably more experience than potential at this stage.
