Ronald Koeman discussion

Close to CL qualification after three seasons? FFS, why? How is getting close to that an ambition fulfilled? Moyes got 4th and 5th; Martinez got 5th in his first season with a total that in any other season would have got 3rd never mind 4th.

Koeman is taking over a team that finished 11th twice, he also has to break a top 4 that makes on average 150m more revenue each season, its not going to be done overnight.

Pretty sure the 4 0 one was as well.

As was the rimming of Arsenal the other day.

Sake mate, the bloke will deliver. Short term, granted, it is a bit functional, the Summer was a mess, etc etc.

You have made your mind up early, unlike the vast majority on here who gave Martinez about 6 times the amount of time you are affording Koeman.
I'd never deny the two maulings against Liverpool under Martinez weren't embarrassing. That doesn't make the surrender monkey nature of that last defeat under Koeman any less embarrassing though.

Koeman needs to show an awful lot more than we've seen so far. Does he have time? Of course. But being in a mediocre position in a rubbish league playing muck doesn't count as a great start, IMO.

Because it takes time to build his squad and getting rid of the deadwoods. If the board do provide money for him, of course he has to break the glass ceiling. But the foremost criteria is back him and let him sign his players.

That wasn't the quotation I read. Regardless, there's no way any ambition to get into the top four is becoming a reality with the muck he serves up.

I'll say this now without fear of overstatement: this football of the past 5 months is worse than from any manager I've witnessed...and I go back to the last couple of season's of Gordon Lee as boss....a time span which takes in a huge haemorrhoid like Walter Smith.

still prefer the way martinez played last season over the way Leicester did last season Dave?

Sorry you are just turning blind eye on the stuff you don't want to deal with. Open your eyes - 2014/2015 - 11th; 2015/2016 - 12th when Martinez was sacked. What was the point of talking about a squad three seasons ago while you completely ignore the history of the past 2 seasons? Basically you judge him after 10 odd games, ok.

I tell you who is the fraud, his name is called Martinez.
Fraud's dont get club points record totals.

As things stand Koeman wont get near that. Ever.

thats not quite true though is it Dave, in fact you have to go back a whole season to find a team finishing 5th with 72 points in spurs before we did

Ronald has come in at a very tough time, completely cold with no grace period like Klopp had to test out all his players. That's what he's been doing this season up until now, deciding who he thinks is good enough and who isn't, and he's given almost all of them a fair crack of the whip to prove themselves. He's also given them the chance to prove they can play passing football, they clearly aren't up to it yet, hence the back to basics stuff we've seen up until this point. That'll change after a couple more transfer windows.

Given how the board ballsed up summer it has made his job even harder, but him and Walsh have had time to assess targets now, primarily for the summer id imagine, and the next two windows will see him mould his own squad, get rid of Moyes' remaining surrender monkeys and Martinez's absolute no hopers, of which there are plenty.

The top 6 are exactly where you'd expect them to be given what they've spent and the solid basis they all had, and yet he's got us best of the rest so far. It's not been pretty but it's proving effective, I think he's doing a fine job so far.

Remember the 0-0 when it was only luck that saw Ibe denied a winner mate, that performance was far inferior to the last derby,

My question is simple on that score:

If Moyes first season in charge got us in the top 5 for most of the season and then falling away to 7th...with a really tripe squad;
and if Martinez came in first season and had us 5th playing in a manner that we all found a joy to watch....why are we excusing Koeman in his first season?
