Ronald Koeman discussion

Mate, there's no way Koeman has taken this team to another level in his first season as both Moyes and Martinez did.

You're sitting there watching this muck. If you can hand on heart say that you say to yourself exiting the ground that we've stepped onto a higher plain then I'll be astounded.

Nar, I walk out the ground thinking we need at least 5 new players.

The same as I did last season.

So after Ronny buys those 5 players, we can climb to this "higher plain".

No mate. I said 'at least trying to'. And he did always try to play positive enlightened football on the deck...unlike the Dutch Pulis.

No Dave it wasn't positive and enlighthened football.

It was football that had been shown as not working and he persisted with it when other 'enlighthened' managers had adapted away from it.

His positive football btw managed to score 6 goals less than Koemans southampton team did over the 2 years they where both in charge of there teams at the same time (the only fair evaluation), whilst containing a 28m quid striker.

I won't mention that football is about not conceding as well, as - well that would just get embarrasing when we compared the two and there defensive records

Rather have th Dutch Pullis (silly comparsion btw) than have the Spanish Sherwood in charge

Did either Moyes or Roberto in those first few seasons ever think that it was enough? Moyes in his early period here talked about challenging for the title...as did RM.

Ronald Van Pulis is just setting a low bar so he cant be judged.

Hes already said he wants to be fighting for Titles.

He just said it wont take 5minutes.

Talks a lot of sense does Ronny, unlike the last clown we had.

The Spanish Sherwood.

Oh thats good.

Too simplistic to look at it like that.

You have to consider the standard of other teams in the league.

Moyes got 7th without City to contend with. Martinez got 5th when UTD and Spurs were that bad they had to fire their manager during the season. This season so far the expected top 6 is exactly as expected, even by yourself. Non of their managers are at risk of being sacked, with the possible exception of Wenger not getting a new deal and we beat them.
Have a look at the table mate, there's some low hanging fruit there that could easily be plucked. Arsenal on 37, Spurs on 36 and United on 33...and we sit in a 'division' below it all with the other no marks.

I think he's trying to play in a way which gets the best out of the squad. It might not be beautiful, but we're in a decent position on the table. This time last season we were dangerously close the relegation zone. Give him, Walsh and Mo$hiri some windows and see how we look then.

...you are convinced this feller can set up in a non-hoofball manner and play actual football? Because that's what it'll take.

Compare Martinez's best PL performance with Koeman's. It's a pretty easy way to determine where the talent lies. Both came into well drilled organisations for their best season efforts.

Of course the only way to really compare them is what they do with us. Martinez had a great first season and two midtable duffers. Koeman I reckon will give us top half finishes...just.

We may as well have got Moyes back. At least he'd have been cheaper.

Koeman is a pragmatic manager. He wants results now, regardless of the performances necessary to achieve them. He's doing what it takes to tread water, until he has the team he wants.

Martinez, for all his idealism on how the game should be played, didn't know how to organise a team to achieve it. And he stubbornly refused to adapt.

You have to respect pragmatism in a manager. No manager has ever had success with idealism alone.

Only title he'll get is this one...

Davek mate I'd take the hoofball at the moment but not long term mate - they need to change the tactics in each game to suit - they did play football in the move that gueye missed a sitter if he would of scored it would of been move of the season . If it takes hoofball defending crosses and playing flowing football to win the matches and get the results I'm all for it like 99 % of fellow blues on this forum .

We had 26 points last season, lost 4 games, draw 8, won 6.

28 points now. Lost 6, drew 5, won 7.
