Ronald Koeman discussion

Just to pick up on this.

The squad 3 years ago was good yes. But look at the squad and compare it 3 years on. Ours has barely changed, the teams above us have improved theirs in some way, from West ham signing payet to liverpool and Spurs improving and refining what they had. 3 years ago these players were fine, but the fact we barely improved ours in that time left them 3 years older and stuck in their ways and used to a way of doing things.

Some players at the club believe they are the team, which again was fine 3 years ago with results but once the results go and they still believe they are the team then something fundamentally has gone wrong there. They all downed tools at the same time and give them hakf a chance they will do it again. Best way to counter that is by getting rid of them and building a new everton team, where they aren't guaranteed a place no matter how bad they play.
I mentioned the other day that I keep hearing this but it simply isn't true.

Stekelenburg, funes Mori, holgate, Williams, gana, cleverley, Lennon, bolasie, Deulofeu, DCL, niasse and Valencia have all been brought in since the end of the 14/15 season. That's 11 players. Bring Galloway and Davies into the mix and you could basically put out a balanced side made up of players we've brought into the side over the last 18 months.

Don't get me wrong, many of those players aren't of the required standard, but the idea that we haven't refreshed the squad is a complete fallacy.

it might do but koeman should be able to get this current team playing a lot better than they are, we have some good players who are just not performing for some reason

is that a flaw in the player or the manager?

Had Calvert-Lewin scored yesterday we'd have taken 9 from 12 points over the festive period - our best record in ages.

The team have started to actually resemble a team in recent weeks.

Koeman made a mistake yesterday with his team selection. It happens. The fact that the players were dreadful doesn't help.

its still a decent impact after only 6 months managing in a completely different league

koeman's been in the prem for a few years now and his impact with us hasn't been great has it?

What impact were you after then? Top 4?

The team was on its knees when he took over. No fight/discipline within the squad. I'm not saying he's done a fantastic job but through whatever methods he's got us 7th in the league which in a realistic world is where we should be.

these things can happen, i understand that

what the problem is if it it keeps happening

Klopp took over a team that should have won the league 2 years prior to him taking over.

Koeman took over a team that at 1 point was in danger of getting dragged into a relegation battle.

No, it hasnt been great, is that down to the player or the manager? You know how we determine that? We allow the manager to bring in his own players and put his mark on a team, like Klopp has done, so that means we give the manager time.

If in 18months we sit in 7th and are still playing hoofball then we know its the manager and we sack him.

Its really that simple.

we are only 7th because of our start to the season and the momentum that followed which has now faded

based on the last 15 games how many points have we picked up? its worrying

It's not worrying because no one's taking away those points we won at the start of the season. They all count.

They nailed onto the preview last night. The team has been together that long that they play a certain way and old habits are the hardest to change.

Like @Ashtonian said our squad has barely changed over the years, we'll invest in the new players both now and in the summer and we'll then see what he's capable of.

Put the knives away you heathens

The trouble is that only about four of those players are regular first teamers. Some are youngsters bought for the future, some are squad players whom we don't really need, and some are complete failures *looks @ Valencia & Niasse*. The core of the team is made up of players whom we had 2 - 3 years ago - Coleman, Jagielka, Baines, Barry, Mirallas, Lukaku.
