Ronald Koeman discussion

From top to bottom it smacks of mediocrity.

We have a mediocre owner, mediocre chairman, mediocre manager and mediocre players apart from Lukaku who will be off in the summer if he has any ambition whatsoever.

The club is in a mess and it will cost a fortune to sort it our and even then, this doesn't guarantee success. Man U have spent billions since Ferguson retired and only now do they look the real deal.

Anyone that thinks Koeman will win us major trophies are deluding themselves. He is tier 3 of management, whilst the likes of Ancelotti, Pep and Mourinho are tier 1.

And do you honestly believe RK would be here if he was tier 1 anyway? Would you go to Everton and work with BK and the fake Mosh when you could go to Man U or City where their owners actually put money where their mouth is?

Do one Ev. Another ruined weekend cheers.

Perhaps its just Koeman's general dourness too, but even in the wake of an improved run of results in the league recently, to me his demeanour is not of somebody who is assured they have the resources to begin to spend big now and in the summer, and that in seven months time the starting Everton XI will be radically different.

His post-match comments today and more recently, for me, all seem to be a way of saying "It's over to you, Farhad" on transfers. Whether he lacks confidence in our ability to execute transfers because of last summer, or feels that enough money isn't there, we cannot know.

In one sense, I don't think there would ever have been the coziness between Koeman and the board that existed under previous managers, which is good for us. Maybe not in this window, but certainly over the summer, if he feels he was misled on the budget, I think he'll not be slow in saying so.

Of course, even with his brand of honesty he is not going to come out and suggest it will be all guns blazing for transfers, but I have to admit, and perhaps it's my general sense of paranoia and suspicion concerning Everton that's clouding my judgement here, but even aside from today's disappointment and beyond, I am becoming uneasy/unsure that "big" money will be spent.

I agree Bri.
Koeman has well and truly put the onus on the board and rightly so.

I said earlier in another thread that the failure to deliver the quality signings we so desperately need are either as a result of a lack of funds or incompetence.

Koeman has the look of a man who has been let down but who is still content, at the moment, to sit tight on his big contract in the knowledge he can blame the board for not backing him as they promised when he accepted the job.

We're simultaneously on target for our main priority this season whilst also recognising that the squad is utter wham that will be replaced with quality.

I think this season is going rather well...

I'm a little confused,is this the squad since the 80's that Martinez couldn't get the best out of or a terrible squad that Koeman has to work miracles with. Pretty much the same players.

We're going nowhere without investment in the team irrelevant of the manager but we need to spend wisely.
Rk only wants 27yo's + for instant impact but that could waste a golden opportunity. Bolasie's been a financial disaster.
Happy to get Morgan but we'll only get the most out of SW if he's allowed to go after his targets.
RK has stated if he can't have who he wants he doesn't want anyone else. That attitude curtails SW's expertise and is certainly not in the best interest of the club long term.
I do agree with the idea that we should be buying younger players.

If it was up to me I would swap all the crown squad players over 2 years with younger players with potential. That way you aren't disrupting the first team as proven to be a failure, but it allows them to play their way into their first team naturally. Not every one would be a success but then chances are enough of them scouted by Walsh would be, enough to turn over huge profits or improve the first 11 over time.

Because thst is the catch 22. We have a short term manager and finances to provide a long term future. City for arguments sake built their success on signing x amount of players over 18 months and they still make the bulk of the squad now with additions along side them. Exactly what we should do, except on a lower scale to prevent us just bombing down the league like every other club does.

And as mentioned most of the squad needs kicking out simply based on their attitude. If people write a player off for bad attitude then it should apply for the whole team!

But investment wise, I'm cynacle about that in the first place, but the board need to be looking at it and actually having urgency about it. Not messing about like the summer and feeling like if they fail the it's OK, it isn't. If United want 24 for schneiderlain then pay it. Make him our player now because thst couple of million they are trying to save may have been a win today if they had sorted it out last week. That is the difference here, long term sure but sign the players now rather than mess about negotiating, if there is fair price then pay it, only negotiate when the selling club are playing hard ball

after the announcement at the AGM about the premier league position being more important than cups , I am not surprised by todays result.

this is a transitional season blues, the transfer window is the most important thing with the club at the moment. we have a squad full of bang average players, we need to make sure we get the right QUALITY in now, players that will come in and improve us right away.

I'm expecting us to make it to 7th and a possible European place and then go for it big time this summer and next season.

Stopped reading at mediocre owner.

Dumb sentence.

He's done nowt to earn the goodwill of our fans.

Making the kind of dough he makes he deserves every bit of criticism he gets.

Give me a reason to believe Ron. Until you do I will remain underwhelmed and will be hoping for something/someone better.
