Ronald Koeman discussion

I'm disappointed in the state of the club going into the first match. We obviously aren't ready for the season to begin. At least some of that is the fault of Koeman. Saying otherwise is not being "honest".

1) We didn't get our transfers done early enough. He's heavily involved in that. Did he hold on to his top targets too long? Probably, but those players have also been giving Everton reasons to think they may come to join us (and they still may). It's a difficult situation and one that's not easily remedied when the transfer window is open 3 weeks into the season.

2) According to most the past few years, we've had good players and Martinez was the main reason we underperformed. Now with those same players, Koeman doesn't seem to think we are good enough. You can't continue to lay this on Martinez, he's been gone a long time now. Can Koeman take this group into the top 6 without new signings. It doesn't appear he's confident of that.

3) 70% fitness? Koeman has had time to work on that fitness. Why is it only 70%? Injuries happen to every club, Koeman should have been a bit more prepared to start but I understand that maybe with the Euros and poor fitness last year, it was always going to take time.

4) Koeman's "honesty" is refreshing but very few minded Roberto's positivity during his first year. If Koeman doesn't give us a winning team this year, how long before Koeman's honesty starts feeling like he's trying to shift the blame to the players? Losing has a way of altering our perceptions of the manager. It doesn't matter how honest Koeman is, we'll still be yelling "Koeman Out!" if we finish in the bottom half again.

So I'm being honest here, Koeman should have Everton more ready than it is but this was never going to be a quick turnaround from 2 years of mediocrity. For me, I'm very hopeful that Koeman can do the job but I'm still in the wait-and-see mode.

Writing this season of before it even starts and that's not because I think Koeman won't be a good signing for us

He's playing catch up trying to add 6-7 players to a very poor squad, All those players will have to have time to bed in

He's battling to get them up to a good standard of fitness so they can play a high pressing game, I think he will have been shocked at how off the pace they are in comparison to the Southampton players

I think we are going to start poorly and slowly get better over the course of the season, Top 10 is my thinking in all honestly, Maybe a good cup run

He managed to get quite a few players bedded in at Saints with no problem, good players can fit in most of the time.

Del up front with Kev and Aaron on each wing, operating as a front three when we are attacking with Aaron and Kev dropping back into midfield when we are under the cosh?

I think it will work, i know it will work, Everton 1:0 Spurs

COYB!

How long do you think it takes for a manager to get a ragged squad of players on the right training regime, watch them play and assess whats good and what not and also identify new players who are attainable and will fit the team *You think* you have. Not to mention the many other commitments managers have to make along with players coming in and potentially buying our players.

You are being massively unreasonable and must think its like Football manager or fifa. Give your head a wobble and go play Fifa

I'm being perfectly reasonable. He's had months to work on things and the pre-season was pretty disappointing. I'm more than willing to give Koeman more time, I just think we should have noticed more of a difference at this point. For what it's worth, I'll still be advocating giving Koeman more time even if we lose our first 5 games and don't bring in anyone else at the transfer window.

How noble! How gracious! You are a true gentleman of the scene, my friend.

Somebody call Ronald Koeman. You have more time Ronald! We might even let you manage 1 single professional football match before we judge you, you lucky swine.

Hes not had months tho! The players have pre season where they go on holiday or go the Euros. He cant sign players in that time until he has had chance to assess the squad and what he needs

A difference like perhaps....conceding 0 goals in your last 2 preseason games against 2 top league teams, except for a rash early penalty by the new guy?

Its awfully hard to lose when you dont give up any goals. In their last two warmup games last year against Leeds and Villareal? They gave up 4 goals.

This place is unbelievable:

  • Koeman doesn't make any big signings in the first few weeks of the window - "hanging on for targets too long".
  • Koeman targets "lesser alternatives" - "no ambition"
  • The "war chest" hasn't been dipped into as it seems top players don't want to sign for us - "it was a lie, no war chest, nothing has changed, Moshiri is a fraud"

Some people seriously need to grow up and get a life :coffee:
