Why are you judging with so little time gone by? He's obviously, as you have pointed out in so many occasions, singled out Barkley as a player that needs improvement. So what's your point here that Barkley isn't good enough? Because you've used that as a rod to beat Koeman with in the past or that he's not immediately got a playmaker when he's instead spent money on a cm when we've got a ton of bang average ones 'falling out of cupboards at FF'?

Koeman wants a pressing aggressive game, I think he got that today. Given the energy and aggression that young Davies shows I am sure we will see a lot of him in the team from now on. Just a thought, but, I am not sure that McCarthy is surplus to requirements here, he is very definitely a Koeman type player and while not a regular starter I can see Koeman viewing him as excellent cover for the central midfield area.

Once McCarthy and Schneiderlin are fully fit and Gueye returns I think it's Barry who will be the player surplus to requirements

Tactics and substitutions were spot on today,
Key is to keep your shape against City and their runners off the ball are more dangerous than the man with it.
Our Discipline was superb.
Helps when you have better quality subs as well like.

There's massive improvements still to be made.

Mainly it's getting players in who are always up for it and, in turn, boost the players we have. It worked today.

You mustn't have been reading my earlier posts then...no doubt you were doing something weird like travelling home from Goodison, but the rest of us hard core supporters on here were all very happy and posted to say so.

My only words of caution are that a) it's only one full game we've actually turned up for this season, and b ) and more importantly, playing City is easy in terms of not having to break down stubborn banks of players ahead of us...which we will cintinue to struggle with because this manager prefers not to sign a playmaker but throw another kings ransom at a position we didn't urgently need to address. And I'm right too.

Underlines my point before about us continuing to struggle against teams that sit back...and the one made about wasting £24m on another cm when we have them falling out of the cupboards at FF rather than buying a playmaker who can pick a pass through.
