Ronald Koeman discussion

Ronald Koeman has stressed he will need time as he works on his 'big project' at Everton.

The Dutchman was appointed as Toffees boss in June, succeeding the sacked Roberto Martinez, and is looking to revive the Merseyside outfit, even speaking around the time about trying to emulate the glory days of the club's past.

But ahead of his first competitive game in charge, Koeman has emphasised it is not a quick-fix job.

Speaking at his press conference to preview Saturday's Premier League campaign-opening clash with Tottenham at Goodison Park, he said: 'It is a nice challenge, it is a big project and that project is starting. But it will not be completed after two months - we need more time. That is what everybody mentions, but in our way of thinking, it needs time.

'We know normally in football you don't have time and need to win from the start. But I think there are enough good reasons to explain why we need more time.'

'But in our situation it's, for example, more difficult than it is for Tottenham in their situation if you compare that.

'We play against a really strong team who have not really a lot of changes, which is always positive and good.

'We don't have that, but okay - it's football and you can win against everybody. We will see what we can do.'

Koeman added of the meeting with Tottenham, who finished eight places above Everton in third last term: 'I'm looking forward to a full house, sold out. We need the support and we will get it if we do our job and show our fans we are committed to Everton, and that spirit that you need to win the game.'

The more he keeps going on about this 'project' the less I think we can win the league this year.

I am happy that Koeman is unhappy in a perverse way.

We haven't delivered the big signings yet. He inherited a poorly thought out pre-season. He has unfit and possibly slightly lazy/complacent players. He is all about winning and he isn't finding that culture top to bottom at our club.

He should be grumpy. It is infinitely preferable to Roberto's phenomenal happy-clappy nonsense and far more promising for the future.

The time to worry is if he ever starts to seem accepting of mediocrity.

We once again have a manager who engages in refreshing honesty and resists making stupidly over-enthusiastic soundbite comments. In the last couple of days, Moyes seems to be similarly honest with the media and Sunderland fans keeping them informed over a new contract offer for Kone and saying that a bid was received from us. Puts the laughable antics of Martinez into stark contrast.

Almost the exact same fake smile.
Clearly a sociopath.

I think maybe we are expecting a bit too much too soon just because we have money now, it will take time but as long as we van see some progress as we go on thats fine with me. These are qoutes from Mourinho on Man U earlier this week which is exactly the situation we/Koeman find ourselves in.

"My teams are different to Mr Van Gaal, and it is a difficult situation to change the dynamics.

"It would be easier for me to have 20 new players and start from zero. For two years, they had some principles of play that are not mine - clearly, they are not.

"But the players are players and, without losing their identity, they always try to adapt to what the manager wants.

"Of course, after two years of work, there are things in their brain that are automatic, and that is difficult to change.

Good, good, just what we need. I don't even know what psychopathic category Bobby fell into but it's a refreshing change.

I hate to say this but I have only been as underawed by an Everton managerial appointment once before Ronald was given the job.

And that was Howard's third coming.

Even Mike Walker and Walter had me more enthusiastic at the start of their reigns :(

Nowt Ronald has said in his thus far short tenure as EFC manager has enthused me in the slightest.

And whilst I am optimistic about our prospects in the long run under Mr. Mo, right now I am more low key about the start of a new season than I have ever been before.

:(

I hate to say it but I agree mate. Completely underwhelmed and non-enthused. Sure I'll give him a chance, but I am struggling to get up for this season.
