Ronald Koeman discussion

Hopefully this season I can see football that warrants more than the 3 minute package I only bothered with last season.
Yes, true. Well, despite being up until 3am, I didn't get to watch it. I did enjoy the early game on SBS though. After watching the Matilda's, you could definitely see a skill difference...:p

I've definitely noticed the 'ok's'. Just seems like a verbalized pause he does speaking his non native language. Rather it be ok than a bunch of 'um's'.

That's exactly it. These last couple years at Southampton and Everton are probably the most English Koeman has spoken in his life. It was the same with Roberto, yes he was overly positive but I think he didn't know how to describe some of the things he wanted to get across to the press in English because it's not his native language.

Yeah...the way he does it, it just appears like it's 'Ok...I understood the words that were just said to me and here is my response'.

Martinez had lived in the UK for about 20 years and is married to a Scottish bird, so I very much doubt he's got a problem with language.

Koeman I agree on though, as he's essentially had to speak it for only about 2 years. Presuming he also knows Spanish - it's probably not even his second language.

Something else to note about the aggressive high press we're looking to play: squad rotation is going to be vital. Fitness is a huge part and is something we're going to need to work on as noted by just about everyone. But squad rotation and utilizing those second and third tier players in the right ways is going to be a massive task for Koeman. Not all of our players can play that high press for every game.

Well, my in-laws were both born in Mexico and even though they're both US citizens and speak English at home, it still isn't word perfect.

What I was trying to say is I think all managers from other countries have moments where they know how to describe what they saw in their native language, but it doesn't translate well into English. Like I think "they enjoyed their football" is a nonsense thing to say in English, but maybe in another language there's a word or phrase that explains it better.

A very encouraging first game of the season.I thought we deserved to win based on our first half performance alone. We harrassed and harried Spurs and caused them no end of trouble going forward. We deserved to be more than 1 goal up at half time. Then the fitness levels dropped and they took over but i was very impressed with the way we grinded out the draw in the end.I think Koemans finger prints were all over the first half performance in particular. We looked so much more organised than at any stage last season.A task that admittedly wouldn't be that difficult to accomplish. When we are at full fitness to play Koemans intense pressing game and once all our transfer targets are bought in we will a very difficult team for any opposition to play against.I see no problem with the goal keeping situation.Stekelenbug was a boss player for Ajax twice winning their player of the year award and he was number 1 for Holland when they got to the world cup final. He'll do a job for us for now.All in all i think there's plenty of reasons to be optimistic based on the first game of the season. This was Koemans first competitive game and we would have beaten a very good Spurs team if it wasn't for the fitness levels running out.

Or trying to convince the other team of that so that they take it easy
Well that didn't work did it? They pummelled us in the last 30 minutes.

Maybe the psychology worked the other way and made our lot feel like they had permission to flag in the latter part of the game.

TBH though I think the we just got over run by a better outfit in the end.

Fitness Dave.

Lack thereof. That will come.

Intensity that hasn't been there for a while was there yesterday. Goodison likes nothing more than to see our players scrapping on the pitch.

Second half the fitness clearly showed and we are PRESENTLY lacking in it.

Soon to be remedied.
