Ronald Koeman discussion

Stones was feted for it though by most.

What I'm saying here is that we cant throw the baby out with the bathwater. You cant let a season where failure to play safe when necessary push you toward a style of football where it's safety first all the time, you have to play it out from the back when at all possible. <<<This I undersatand to be the Koeman way also.

I didn't see anything objectionable from our lot yesterday. Not enough in the opposition box but certainly there was x2 the effort to last season.

He made a mistake for their goal, decided to come out to put pressure on Rodwell and Rowell megged him with a pass to Defoe (who Stones should have been marking) and Defoe slotted.

Yes.

Fitness is good; pressing is good. Hacking the ball out of defence is not so good.

A lot of honest endeavour there yesterday, but better players in will hopefully see us doing more with the ball than that.

We need a driving midfielder to carry the ball out and we need forwards willing to come short as well as go long.

I accept that we were making do with what we had yesterday. But a packet needs spending on this team before now and the transfer window closing.

When i saw the team i thought holgate would be at RB....with Barry Gana and McCarthy in the centre.

We severely lack a box to box midfielder to drive forward.

As predicted after Koeman made his comment: this lot need no encouragement to clock off, so why give them permission...which is what the 70% comment allowed them to conclude they could do?

Daft statement.

I said more or less the same thing in the match thread yesterday. It was all too obvious because withing the space of five minutes it was rife throughout the side. I've never seen that happen the way it did, and in such a short space of time as it did, and never hope to see it again.

Different people have different stamina levels, but at least 6 of them visibly wilted within 5 minutes of Deulofeu taking it easy running out of steam. The rest (who weren't taken off) followed soon after.

One or two I could perhaps understand.

I think everyone thought 433. Personally I'd have dropped Barkley back into a three man midfield with McCarthy and Gueye and had Mirallas spearheading a front three completed by Deulofeu and and Lennon.

Why can't footballers get as fit as our cyclists or rowers? Imagine if they were. Lazy prima donnas. Too busy shopping instead of being dedicated like our Olympians. Disgrace.

Good football is inclusive of that.

Naturally.

Although good football doesn't always involve fancy going nowhere passing that can cause as many problems as it solves. A main sticking point of martinez side was the passing being over-engineered.

Making several passes when one'll do; or at the back when under pressure isn't always the solution. Early clearances can bring their pressures but farting around at the back brings just as many - if not more, as we witnessed.

Clearances and you can get time to regroup, you can't if your last man loses the ball.

What impressed me the most yesterday was that we played with effort and energy, the players now have a standard and boundry to perform to and if they dont i thinkKoeman will regin fire.

If felt hugely refreshing just to have a game plan, motivated players who cared and fighting for a result.

He said it after the game before anthing else players must learn the fundamentals of his style, fitness, high pressing, energy they are not 100% on that yet. Its about building the house from the bottom up.

High energy is our watch word.

Aye.
