Ronald Koeman discussion

Fitness Dave.

Lack thereof. That will come.

Intensity that hasn't been there for a while was there yesterday. Goodison likes nothing more than to see our players scrapping on the pitch.

Second half the fitness clearly showed and we are PRESENTLY lacking in it.

Soon to be remedied.
Fitness is good; pressing is good. Hacking the ball out of defence is not so good.

A lot of honest endeavour there yesterday, but better players in will hopefully see us doing more with the ball than that.

We need a driving midfielder to carry the ball out and we need forwards willing to come short as well as go long.

I accept that we were making do with what we had yesterday. But a packet needs spending on this team before now and the transfer window closing.

That wasn't a constant though, it was done under necessity. When pressure wasn't on we looked to play it out, when under pressure the ball was cleared and we regrouped.

A major downfall of the last 2 seasons has been addressed

Maybe the psychology worked the other way and made our lot feel like they had permission to flag in the latter part of the game.

Certainly seemed that way to me, almost bang on cue at the 70% (Or an hour in, if you like) stage of the game, too. Deulofeu was first; they all seen him tiring rapidly, and it became contagious. A bit like when someone yawns.

Went from front to back.

Was actually quite pleased they didn't always opt for the strict martinez M.O. of fannying around at the back and perpetually trying to play it out of defence.

No messing round - got rid when they had to, and especially when it was the right thing to do. Sometimes the easy option is the sensible one.

There was a bit in the first half when mccarthy was by the right corner flag and put in row z of the main stand, thought that under Bobby that would have been played in field and we would have been right under pressure

There's a time and place for passing it out, and i think they did it quite well yesterday

To be honest though Dave. I'm fed up of stupid show boating at the back.

Let John Stones do that and get into loads of trouble (again yesterday).

I prefer to win games and win stuff

But that ratio of playing out and clearing lines has got to be flipped on what it was yesterday, right??

That's where quality additions come into it.

Stones was feted for it though by most.

What I'm saying here is that we cant throw the baby out with the bathwater. You cant let a season where failure to play safe when necessary push you toward a style of football where it's safety first all the time, you have to play it out from the back when at all possible. <<<This I undersatand to be the Koeman way also.

There's a time and place for passing out of the back, yesterday we did it right. It's about results and points, and they start with conceding the fewest. Not arsed if the press aren't gushing over us playing "beautiful football" as long as the points are in the board

As predicted after Koeman made his comment: this lot need no encouragement to clock off, so why give them permission...which is what the 70% comment allowed them to conclude they could do?

Daft statement.
