Ronald Koeman discussion

Naturally.

Although good football doesn't always involve fancy going nowhere passing that can cause as many problems as it solves. A main sticking point of martinez side was the passing being over-engineered.

Making several passes when one'll do; or at the back when under pressure isn't always the solution. Early clearances can bring their pressures but farting around at the back brings just as many - if not more, as we witnessed.

Clearances and you can get time to regroup, you can't if your last man loses the ball.
Overpassing is caused by lack of quality movement ahead. There's nothing to fear in passing a ball...it's what football is all about.

I want to see clean sheets, goals and 3 points on the board. You know, the basics
Scoring goals requires building moves - unless you want to over rely on set pieces.

We had a lot of our goals come from open play under Martinez and we dont need to throw that away now he's gone.

I'm confident Koeman knows that and appreciates it and we wont be regressing to Moyes' hoofball.

He's ok, but younger legs can do tracking back better.

Barkley & Deulofeu don't do tracking back mate. I'm aware their different players, just saying.

Incidentally, they were the first two to run out of puff yesterday. Yes, they pressed well in the 1st half - But they didn't last long in the second, and they're two of the younger members of the side.

I really was gobsmacked at the stamina of the side yesterday. Just can't help but fail to get me head around it.

I was referring to Gueye and McCarthy.

Playing it around is generally for the midfield & forwards to do. The defenders are there to defend, primarily. If they get the opportunity, then by all means knock it about - but first things first, and that's cut out the nonsense.

Dicking about with the ball at the back isn't good football though.

We got the balance right yesterday, playing out when appropriate but clearing our lines when it wasn't
No, we didn't. Second half it was ill thought out and pretty desperate at times.

Spurs are a good team though, they'll do that to you. They should be our template: work hard but play it to feet.

All goals count, couldn't care less where they come from as long as 3 points are on the board.

We had enough quality according to bobby; Barry the best English midfielder ever produced, cleverly and his german/Dutch football education and not forgetting the perfect striker in kone who was on par with Drogba.

Koeman will deliver and he will ensure when his team knows to clear and when they pass it out and build. There was evidence yesterday to prove this, plenty of evidence. Once the fitness is up, we'll fly

Spurs created knack all until Jansen came on, absolutely jack.

If we'd have not been hampered by the fact we didn't have a striker on the pitch for most of the game, then our hold up play would have been far better when the ball was cleared up field.

Yesterday was a massive improvement from the turgid one paced cack that Martinez delivered last season

That team played with a lot of quality on the ball; off the ball they failed to work hard. That's just about the bottom line on them.

Bottom line: I hope Koeman is a half way house between Moyes' discipline and hard running and Roberto's insistence that we build from the back and attempt to construct moves.

Yes, I did know that - I made mention about the two I mentioned being different types of player. I was on about the fitness levels.

Barry held the midfield together fairly well yesterday. McCarthy seemed to be asking Gueye to protect him throughout the 2nd half; understandable I guess, given McCarthy's unfamiliarity with the role he was in yesterday. When Gueye did, Barry had more ground to cover.

Unti he came on? He came on early second half.

They put a poor first half behind and showed the gap between us and them. End of story.
