Ronald Koeman discussion

That's the key for me, and signalled a possible shift in mentality for most of those players. Last year they would have completely crumbled once the fans started getting edgy and panicky. The 4th goal was brilliant, kept the ball calmly and waited patiently for an opening, then the superb cross and finish just brought out a wave of relief around the ground.
There was 23 passes in the build up to that 4th goal, which came after he'd altered the system back to a 3 when Holgate came on.

All good points mate, think a curious thing though is that basically everyone above us (even those on good form) are looking weaker than they did first half of the season, we are looking stronger and fitter by the week, gonna be an interesting last few months to the season for sure

Just got to take it week-by-week I suppose pal.

Only focus on the next game etc etc.

European football is returning very shortly and that will have an effect on those teams, no doubt about it.

But, we can't rely solely on those above us to slip up.

Yeh it was the right change at the right time.

Our play in the first half was generally very good I thought, but it was based mainly around 'pressing high' - which is why having McCarthy really helped.

The Boro game will be interesting, since Sunderland I'm not sure we've put in a convincing away performance apart from Leicester. We need to move away from lording it at Goodison but scrapping for draws away from home. Hopefully we will start to see that consistency in the second half of the season which will set us up for next season.

I can't get too excited about Everton teams winning at home second half of the season when the pressure is off. We saw that season after season under Moyes. The integration of youth, new signings, form of key players, is looking very hopeful however, as are the manner of the wins (hammering City 4-0 who are now playing very well)

More mocking and goading of Everton fans for being happy after a great win. Imagine being so sad as to get a perverted pleasure out of doing such a thing. If it was a supporter of another club it wouldn't be tolerated.

Was lucky enough to be in attendance on Saturday after a long trip. What a day! The Koeman Kids are going places!

I thought we played some really good stuff at times. Some of the play on Saturday was the type of stuff I think Martinez wanted to play but could never quite manage. We were passing the ball, but remaining patient. There were times when we were keeping it for ages, but with a view to creating space and finding gaps, rather than just passing it for passing it's sake. Unfortunately some of the defending was also straight out of the Martinez school, but I thought the signs were very promising in the main on Saturday.

Not posting in direct reply to anyone, I saw a post stating we look fitter than a lot of teams. I remember Alex Ferguson saying he never structured UTD to hit the blocks running, but to finish the season strong, running out games which obviously proved successful at the time.
Now I'm not saying Koeman has purposely set us up for that, however with no extra games to concern us this season, we may just be set up to give it a good shake.

Secondly, Koeman's character, if everything is to be believed, the way he left Soton and joined us said loads about his character at the time. If rumours are to be believed and Barca come in at season's end and he packs and goes, we are in no position to moan. But for the time being I couldn't care if we had Hitler's grandson in charge, if he gets the players playing and positive results then that's all that matters to me.

Of which "rumours" do you speak?

I have heard none.

Have you heard of any such malarkey over there in Catalonia, @bicycleheader
