Ronald Koeman discussion

Wasn't too keen on Koeman.

Warming to him as he has a plan B unlike any other Everton manager in the last twenty years of me going the match!

Not scared to go "Well, Plan A didn't work, time to change".
I agree with this wholeheartedly. I confess I was a bit down on RonKo during our bad run, and I still wish he would get it down and play it a bit more frequently (although this is improving a bit), but his tactical flexibility is a refreshing change from always knowing exactly who will play, in what formation and in which style.

We were talking about this on Saturday. I think he's deliberately getting them to play in different systems, so that they can become comfortable with a number of alternatives over time. This will eventually give him a side that's flexible and can adjust to a whole host of different scenarios.

Just got to take it week-by-week I suppose pal.

Only focus on the next game etc etc.

European football is returning very shortly and that will have an effect on those teams, no doubt about it.

But, we can't rely solely on those above us to slip up.

Ultimately have the feeling they will all drop more points than us over the next 5 games then it's in our own hands and we will have a chance to show if we are now made of sterner stuff against that lot and united away.

That is a fair point, actually.

I called that City performance after Leicester effectively ended our season.

It'll be interesting to see if we do manage to overtake one of the teams above us if we can hold our nerve.

I think with the introduction of Davies, Lookman and Sneiderlin that they have a bit of a fearless attitude and it is rubbing off on our other players.

We could have easily bottled that Bournemouth game when they made it 3-2, but instead we got angry that it had even got to that stage.
I was amazed to see Robles so angry.

Sorry to intrude Davek, but it appears to me that the only way you will 'like' Koeman is if the team score for fun every week and play like barcelona, but i have noticed you in the past for rubbishing the idea of Koeman managing Barcelona.

No manager in the world plays to the level you seem to expect from Koeman to deliver, even some of the best have bad spells or games where they grind a result out because they other team has learned how to play against them. the only comparable i can see from your viewpoint is that you compare our team with ones filled with the best players in the world and as good as some of them may be, they are not messi/ronaldo/muller level of players. These players cost great amounts of money to sign, so it is almost like Koeman on the whole is always going to fail in your mind unless he achieves something we have not since 1987, and win a league title.

for what it is worth, Koeman has had to manage a squad a players into his way of doing things and at first it didn't work as well, but since it sunk in we have seen our results improve quite a bit. Being negative to the manager so early on is a little bit short sighted i think, until he has had 2 seasons in charge we cannot really see his imprint in the team.
He'll get his time in the job.

I'm not calling for Barcelona football. How is/was asking a manager to get the ball on the deck and stop his team hoofing it downfield the same as wanting us to play with the quality of Barcelona?

We'll see how it goes in terms of present form. One swallow does not make a spring. Lets just hold our water and avoid making daft claims that this manager has all the answers. Believe me he doesn't, or he'd already be at a top European club.

Wont see a better team goal all season than this David.

Sounds like even you can recognise you're judging him unfairly then.
No, I have not judged him 'unfairly' at all. I respond to changing styles of playing and the results we're getting. Did it pass you by that we'd had about three wins in something like 15/16 games until recently and playing route one stuff? That stops and the criticism stops.

The only outstanding issue for me atm is his character, which I cant take to. I think he's acted like a big soft lad over McCarthy and Ireland. Barkley, Niasse and the new kid Donkor, and his advice to Lukaku was pathetic.

His pathetic advice to Barkley has him currently playing the best football of his career.

All in great form. What's the problem?

Yup. Good move.

My boy Barks orchestrating things all the way. That's what a lad with confidence does. It's =good that the lesson has been learned that his best is brought about by encouragement.

Lol. No mate. You must be kidding. His best football so far was the season he broke through after Ginger left. Then England fell to his charms too. The lad was being quoted as a £50M player. Long way back to those heady days.
