Ronald Koeman discussion

We needed a shake up as a club and we are certainly getting by it.
Doesn't guarantee success but it is revitalising for the fans.
Moshiri/Koeman more of the same please.

Leicester won this league because they just worked harder and wanted it more. Similar to portugal and wales being a success at the euros.

In this modern age of football where money seems the be all and end all to most, they simply don't care enough to work to their maximum. Too much given to them too early in life. Harry kane being the point in question, 10-15 years ago the lad would have been in the championship by now because i don't think he's the most gifted. But he's kept working and he's made the transition from nothing to premier league superstar pretty easily, mainly imo because he's coming up against defenders who aren't the most hardworking let's say.

Everton boss Ronald Koeman issues challenge to Gerard Deulofeu and Kevin Mirallas
Blues duo told to up work-rate if they want to remain key to future plans

Ronald Koeman has challenged creative duo Gerard Deulofeu and Kevin Mirallas to up their work-rate if they are to remain a central part of his Everton plans.

Koeman’s Goodison reign began with a 1-1 draw against Tottenham on Saturday – a game which reflected both the progress being made under the new manager, and the improvements still required.

Everton were strong in the first half, energetic and purposeful, and led through Ross Barkley’s early goal.

But, as their manager had predicted pre-match, their levels dipped sharply after the break, and after Erik Lamela’s equaliser they were grateful to goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg for two late saves to preserve a point.

Afterwards, Koeman declared himself satisfied with the performance. He did, however, have a warning for attacking duo Deulofeu and Mirallas, both of whom were replaced during the second half of the game.

“You see with Gerard, it is still not for 90 minutes,” he said. “With Gerard, with Kevin... I like the players, but they need to run more. They need to do more, they need to press more.

“It’s all about the work rate of the player. Sometimes it’s difficult because for that creative player, sometimes you’re a little bit more sloppy in that aspect of football.

Ronald Koeman has challenged his Everton team to improve their fitness

“But we will work on it, and you saw Ross in the second half working hard for the team. It is not a question of how good his technique is or how good his first touch is, it’s about him needing to take more responsibility for the team and to do a job defending also. That makes the team stronger.

“We will learn that, no problem.”

Koeman pinpointed a missed chance by Deulofeu on the stroke of half-time, which would have made it 2-0, as a key moment in the game.

“He needs to score,” he said. “With those kind of chances, you have to.”

Everton on brink of completing potential club record deal for Yannick Bolasie

The Dutchman confirmed on Friday that he was keen to bring in at least one new striker before the transfer window closes at the end of the month. Nikola Kalinic, of Fiorentina, is the latest name linked.

With Romelu Lukaku sidelined with a heel injury – Koeman expects the Belgian to return for next weekend’s trip to West Brom – Deulofeu was given the nod to start up front, with Arouna Kone the only other striking option in the squad.

“Gerard showed through the whole of pre-season that he can play in that No.9 position,” Koeman said.

“Of course it’s for him a good challenge against teams like Tottenham, because they like to play with a high line defensively. So there’s a lot of space.

“And you saw with the really big opportunity before half time what can happen. We pressed really well on Rose the full back, and there was no other option but to play the ball back to the goalkeeper, and Gerard was between that.

“But he needs to score.”

Who would have thought at the start of the summer we would be reading headlines like that :(

Yes we are are overpaying, but I think we have to generally to attract most players.
Martinez did some job on our club.

No matter what's in fashion at Everton, the need for hard work and graft in a game remains there.

Many ills can be forgiven as long as there is at least that.
What's the old saying, 'you earn the right to play football'. Commitment and work rate should be the norm not the exception in all teams. Not only is Lionel messi the best player in the world he's also one of the hardest working players pressing and closing down the opposition without the ball. Koeman's call to the likes of geri, Ross and kev will make them better players and better team players, should they take on board what koeman says.

It is not even a question of "overpaying", Kith.

It is the fact we are overpaying for someone as average as Yannick Bolassie......and breaking the club record into the bargain.

we have to be honest, this reeks of panic buy due to the selling of Stones taking so long.

still, better to add to the squad than not...and Gana/Stek have made solid impressions so far.

Yep. Strange one. I would think for £25-30m there are better options.
Add another £5-10m to that and you are looking at top end talent.

I just had a look at who his agent is but it's no one significant (in case @monty was wondering). According to the normally exaggerated values from transfermarkt.co.uk he's worth 12m.

panic buy written all over it, but then so was Fellaini and he turned out well.

in a nutshell this is spot on and 99.9% of Evertonians will say the same. Commitment, fight and desire are a basic requirement when playing for Everton Football Club. Do that and the fans will roar on the team to play above and beyond their capabilities.

Koeman is being blunt, open, honest and damning in his criticism. It tells me a couple of things. Firstly, he's laying down the law of what is and isn't acceptable and seeing who is willing to fight for the cause. Secondly, it makes me believe that there is a few bob to spend because the way he talks he knows he may need to replace a fair few if they get offended by what he says and "down tools" like they did last season.

Koeman is exactly what Everton need right now and more importantly is what Evertonians needed after the absolute guff getting spouted by Martinez

The thing is Doc, Fellani was an unknown quantity to us.

As is Gana to a large extent after just one season in a woeful Villa team.

But we have been watching Bolassie for a few years now and we know how bang average he is :(

Palace can't believe their luck I bet, getting this kind of dough for him.

I don't think it's a panic buy mate. panic buys happen with 2 hours of a transfer window left to go.

I know it seems a lot but I posted today I think it may have more a case to do with Bristol City having a substantial selling on fee inserted into a clause. So perhaps we've had to overpay by 5-7 million.

Just my take on it anyway but I'm really looking forward to having him on board.

aye, there is that...personally i can't recall very much of Bolasie but I trust the judgement of yous who have seen a bit of him. tho' he must have something about him as Walsh/Koeman are experienced pros who wouldn't wanna waste the fabled warchest on someone bang-average.

Take a few stone off and give him a sheepskin coat and Ronald Koeman could just as easily be Gordon Lee speaking a lifetime ago, Mac....lol
