yes, you could say United, Arsenal or the RS are in the first division of the best of the rest league.
Us, WBA, Stoke and Soton are in that league's second division

Oh, so we now have "divisions" of "best of the rest", do we?

FFS we are as close to United as Baggies are to us and we are are closer to the RS in 4th place than Saints in 10th are to us

If you really want to have divisions of best of the rest then at least put us in a league of our own

But whatever way you want to cut it.....5th place is best of the rest and will remain so until that position is granted CL entry.

I could see his thinking to be honest. We needed someone that could mix it with Dembele and Wanyama. Barry can do that; Gana and Schneiderlin don't have the physicality to go toe to toe with those two. Going full rash with McCarthy instead of Barry might have been a better option in retrospect though.

In the end I just don't think we had the attacking weapons to cause them enough problems. I think their defence would have eaten up any of Lookman, Valencia, or Mirallas up front with Rom. Bolasie would have been a great option to have today, lots of space in behind.
But Barry can't do that. When they have THAT much time on the ball deep in our zone, all the attack in the world doesn't matter. You can't concede THAT much space. Barry's ability to play that killer ball over the high line would be the REAL reason you'd play him deep instead of McCarthy or instead of our 3 back line. But he can't do that anymore.

A mate of mine bumped into Ronald Koeman in Soho yesterday evening. He said that Koeman came across really well, happily signing autographs and posing for photies with fans etc.

He became quite tearful when discussing our performance against Spurs, saying something along the lines of: "We were very poor against Tottenham and we let the travelling fans down. But okay, that's football. We will do better next time."

Think today was just a case of us being outclassed if I'm honest. Spurs have been quality for a couple of seasons now and today just further reinforced the fact that we are still at least a couple seasons behind their current setup.

That said, think in retrospect McCarthy should've been in ahead of Barry. We needed more workrate in the middle of the park, felt like Gana was having to do most of the work.

Think we can bridge the gap somewhat if we give Koeman time to work like Poch has had with them. He's had nearly three years now and built a strong squad that now competes with the strongest squads in the league. I think Koeman can do the same with us.
