Ronald Koeman discussion

Placed himself on the wrong side of a debate yesterday for me.

I think the fans will react well to Lukaku tomorrow and that will be pretty uncomfortable for Koeman who has condemned him.
I think you may be WUMing here, Dave.

I've made no secret that I don't love Koeman. Credit where it is due though, he spoke honestly and with conviction in a mature way about the realism's of football.

He basically said "I respectfully disagree" and reiterated his responsibility as manager to the club. He didn't say "Rom is totally right and we are an embarrassment" nor did he say "Rom is completely wrong and will be playing reserve football from now on"

In a word, he provided some perspective.

I watched that presser and thought his attitude and his words were all quite relaxed really, I didn't see or hear the condemnation that super @davek is banging on about or the managerial masterclass a lot of other posters are describing.

He talked about Roms interview like he wasn't actually too bothered really about the player speaking out, and he made it clear what he actually meant about Ross, which was a very normal reasonable assessment of the situation of any player who has one year left and isn't agreeing a new contract.

Typical media spin in that article above @Connor , the headline for me doesn't reflect the tone or words of what was actually said.

I think too much is being read into it all.

Aye.

It wasn't the best of the stuff that come from the 10:30 embargo, that came in the Echo (but I wasn't linking that after yesterday)

He said (exact words) "I'm not happy about that interview...If you are a player your job is to prepare yourself and score goals. And the rest needs to be done by the manager and the board of the club".

That is a slapdown. Doesn't matter about the even handed tone you and others care to place on it.

I love Koeman and if everything that is reported in the Echo is correct then: Ronald shows he is in charge is great. As you can tell from my posts I am tired of these overpaid players !!!!!!!!!! I am not allowed to swear!!!!!!

So you think the players should manage the team, not the manager?

Are you suggesting lukaku was right to conduct that interview this week and condemn his teammates who he has contributed in no small measure, to make him top scorer this season? I know koeman isn't your flavour of the month, but to suggest the fans will be on lukaku's side is just ludicrous at best.

Yeah and Lukaku deserved one. Drawing unecessary negative attention to the club with his look at me antics. What you're shocked about is an experienced manager like Koeman not being in awe of Rom and dealing with him accordingly. It's called management Dave. We haven't seen it at Goodison for a while.

And a damn good slap down it was too.

Here here for Ruthless Ron.

Might think twice about the wind blowing his tongue around when he's away with Belgium next week.

The fans reacted well to Lescott in Pre-Season and at the start of that Arsenal game.

That is a woeful defence of the situation, if you're suggesting a good reception will mean the fans are on the players side V the manager.

The culture now is for managers to suffer the consequences when players don't perform. Ranieri - prime example.

But Ronald has clearly improved the group, his tactics, in game management, formation flexibilty, defensive and offensive improvements, reduction of mistakes and style of football have all been a welcome and speedy pleasure. But what I most like about what I see developing in him is him becoming a Boss - Alex Ferguson never took any rubbish from players or journo's and Ronald came across like this today. Not abrasive, but in control and in all honesty, players are assets that come and go as are managers, but if you get a good manager you should back him over any player as he will get the best out of the group and they will run through brick walls for him.

The fans will always back Everton. One of Koeman and Lukaku came out this week defending the club, talking us up, representing us in a professional manner. The other went to the press without the clubs permission, threw a tantrum because he's not as insta famous as his mate Pogboom, showed a complete disrespect to everyone connected to the club and made us the subject of numerous negative media pieces.

But yeah @davek , the fans are really going to be seething at Koeman for piping that beaut down.

If your child does something wrong you must scold him for it, doesn't mean you love him any less.

So refreshing to have a manager who is not a constant cheerleader for all our players all the time. Ron understands tough love is needed and if you are not committed then we will move on.
