Ronald Koeman discussion

Funny how you would take such a hard line stance on Baines for speaking to the press last year. But with Rom you are having a go at Koeman for acting like a proper manager.
You're comparing Baines and what he did with what Lukaku has stated? One goes after a manager who is part of the playing side of the club; the other points the finger at the money men in the non-playing side of the club.

It's called loyalty to your colleagues - and one has it and the other doesn't.

But then he could've just not said anything. He could have waited til the end of the season before saying he wanted out and not had to face the fans at all. Doing it now and then shifting the blame would make absolutely no sense, unless he was just telling the truth (as he sees it).
And that's the point. His agent has played UTD and Juve to the tune of £14m. He is used to getting his own way, that Pogba deal lasted the whole summer because of Rom's agent. He got his way then, he expected Everton to back down, accept the release fee they wanted and then started work on a Summer move whilst doubling his weekly income. That's not happening, Moshiri realised Everton will get more for him than what they wanted in the contract and can save the club 70k per week in the mean time.

The club deserve tremendous credit and they've been rustled, well and truly.

Thought the phrase was "Respect his contract."

Anyrate, currently we sell, on our terms. Not his or his odious agents.
I cant see the difference. Koeman didn't honour or respect his at S'ton so why is he asking Barkley and Lukaku to?

No, not against Koeman.

My point was that he (Koeman) is on the wrong side of that debate over club ambition. And he KNOWS the Lukaku and the fans are right too, because just 7 weeks ago he was having to wrestle cash out of the board too...so why he's advised the player to keep his mouth shut I dont know.
Thanks for response.

Do you think Rom is wanting out because of the two windows? Instead of him finding out potential suitors are after him and will pay a certain amount for him?

He said (exact words) "I'm not happy about that interview...If you are a player your job is to prepare yourself and score goals. And the rest needs to be done by the manager and the board of the club".

That is a slapdown. Doesn't matter about the even handed tone you and others care to place on it.

It was an answer to a direct question from the press. He also said the player is not being disciplined when asked, because the first step is to talk to the player.

I guess its pretty similar, sort of. At Southampton, he was entering his last year, and asked for assurances from their board on stuff. Wasnt forthcoming, so we paid them to get him.

With Rom, he has 2 years plus remaining. As far as I am aware, he hasnt asked for reassurances etc. Maybe he has, dunno. But he has questioned the ambition. Which considering Koeman moved here as an ambitious move, seems a bit illogical/self serving to me.

Both. I think he probably has always thought our managers weren't backed with real cash, but he's piped up now because he's positioning himself to leave under circumstances slightly more principled than they are.

Koeman for his part should have said: "I dont speak about this. It's an internal matter."

He plays a straight bat on most other things, so why not yesterday? Why take a bullet for the owners?....I can thank of 6 million reasons actually now I've thought about it.

What a nonsense argument. Players are purchased the world over who are under contracts, as are managers, we paid a fee for Martinez.

...being cynical you can say the same for Moyes. He was the one who said 'the grass isn't always greener' but he left. The thing is, players come and players go, Managers come and managers go but it is some achievement to hang around in the top flight like EFC has.

He was telling our players to honour their contracts...that's very thin ice he's standing on there. Barkley and Lukaku must have been amused.
Think his point was if you have two years left on your contract we don't need to sell u til you've got one year left (like Ross).

Koeman had a contract to see out which he said he would. Thats the difference between RL and him.

What would you have said if Koeman's comments about Rom had been said by Martinez out of interest?
