Ronald Koeman discussion

My only criticism of him is his love in of DCL. I hope that lad is nowhere near the first team squad next season.

This honestly baffles me.

The lad has just turned 20, is an England U20 regular and has just moved up from lg 1.

He's hardly played 10 games for us, and in those 10 games he's been used out wide which isn't his position. But he's a grafter, has good movement and helps support Rom.

Unbelievable stuff writing some kid off like that.

Out of interest, were you one of the ones calling for more youth players to be played earlier this season?

It is true that Lewen has been out of position so far when he has played. In fact crazy to stick a young inexperienced striker out wide and expect him to perform to premier league standard at the same time.

Personally, i believe that he is nowhere near ready for the first team but his inclusion in the sides has not been a marker for how much Koeman rates him, more of a marker of how little he rates Valencia and Kone. This lad is starting games before them two, Koeman clearly doesn't fancy either of his experienced back up and with Bolasie/Lennon/Del all out in terms of wingers plus lookman having issues, he is throwing Lewen in at the deep end hoping he will do something of note.

I don't believe he will be an active part of the team next season simply so he can learn the game and get some experience whether it is in the academy or elsewhere. Right now, he is simply just a message of how little chance Kone has of getting a game.

perhaps he's getting a bit miffed that he keeps getting asked questions about the same topics in every presser when he's been giving the same answer each time. I find sports journalists pretty crap at asking questions.

He should suck it up, he's paid £6 million a year and only has to do it once a friggin week.

That applies to all managers who act like tits in press conference. Not just Koeman.

In fairness mate, most strikers start out wide when they first come into the team if they are in the mould of Lewin. It's not really crazy, it's a good way to get them bedded in. At times (like vs Hull) it worked, and others (vs Swansea) it hasn't.

But yeh, it's a case of sink or swim and DCL has definitely kept his head above water.

He was laughing when he said it anyway.

He simply told it as it is in regards to Ross.

Now is the time to make a decision.

If they are good enough they play, Davies and Holgate have both impressed and deserve their place in the side. When Holgate played a poor game against Stoke he was dropped, DCL has been average to poor every game he's played in yet seems to still get the nod over the likes of Mirallas recently which baffles me.

He should be out on loan to a championship side next season.

Did it ? Did it really ? I'm not buying that anymore and filing it under myth.

Sure he can defend a bit better now but he's clearly an inferior player offensively to what he was in first season and even compared to last season.
Overall Yes. Offensively maybe not. Think his previous directness is being coached out of him because of loss of possession. My main point was this season he was drifting along until Koeman pulled him up and then he came back much better. His game has had to alter because of losing the ball too often and the crowd on his back so now he is less of a risk taker.

He hasn't been poor though.

He was good vs Hull, did his best in a difficult game against Liverpool when none of the team performed, and never shied away against the champions elect either.

How is telling a highly paid professional football player that is in poor form to play better and defend more etc. a form of bullying?

He's an adult. If I was underperforming at work I'd be called out on it and I get paid a hell of a lot less than he does.

World's gone soft.

Ridiculous isn't it. People take any form of criticism of him so personally.

I'm assuming this is an act of desperation on the part of the club. An attempt to drum up business for the player who they know they can't automatically get rid of as he could turn any potential move down to the detriment financially of the club.

My view is if Koeman hadn't bullied him early in the season he would have signed at Christmas
.

Jesus wept.

Another one who will use any form of guff to have a go at Koeman.

Is it a private club? Do you all meet and froth at the mouth as he has done OK in his first season and look for reasons to have a pop at him?

Christmas decorations, golf, holidays, not giving youth a chance, social media, his treatment of Barkley.

Each time he as eaten you all up and shat you all out.

Listen Son sign it or don't I'm NEA... You're not as good as your agent tells you you are.

He's been tapped up obvs...I mean how hard can it be, what sticking points are there, 60grand+ anybody got a pen?

People take any form of criticism of him so personally.

That works both ways to be fair, criticising Koeman results in an instant backlash from certain users as well. Id say people are more hostile to criticising him than Barkley.

I also got gunned down for daring to suggest our fanbase overrate Davies.

Its the internet init, people don't like people telling them they are wrong, especially on subjects that are subjective.

No one has claimed that Koeman is getting bullied by our fans though, or going out of their way to lament the unnecessary "stick" he gets. Criticism is part and parcel of being a football player, especially a player that has 4 seasons worth of experience at the highest level. There is no need to feel like he has to be protected and cuddled all the time because it might upset him, he's subject to the same scrutiny as all of our other well paid professionals.
