Ronald Koeman discussion

Exactly. Liverpool won at the bridge and the Emirates, those sort of points are huge for a top 4 challenge and it proved so. Some of our fans think we'll get top 4 by drawing every away game apart from those at Anfield Emirates Stamford Bridge and White Hart Lane which are fine to lose every season and then just blitzing everyone at home. That approach at best gets you 7th. Our away form last season cost us a crack at the top 4.

Our away form at the non top 6 cost us a crack at the top 4, not our away form at the top 6.

It has to be noted that when we beat City, Mirallas was all over he pitch. I think we missed that bit of flair last night.
Kev would of been a better sub last night then Besic thats for sure, in fact might even of done better then Siggy and Klassen, same for Lookman perhaps, someone who can run and work City, easy to say that now but at the time I liked his subs, he went for it, which can only be a good thing as long as the players dont let you down that is

I understand what he wanted to do, but it isn't realistic to win the midfield battle against City at the Ethiad. Like you said I liked the subs at the time. In hindsight, not so much

Siggy did not look fit and help out that much for Baines. Maybe Koeman will have Kev ready on Thursday.

It is depressing to read the pessimism from some of us who can't see the validity of arguing taking the game to a team that was a man down after we've nearly spent 150 million ourselves this summer.

Yeah a draw away to them is a good result, but not capitalizing on being a man up when we were also 1-0 up for 45 minutes is a disappointment whatever way you cut it imo.

People saying we can't go forward against them a man down without being punished is an indictment of where we are as a team right now and how far we still have to go.

Its not pessimism.

Its called REALISM. We've only just thrown 11 players together

Its nonsensical to expect a new team to play like a team thats played 6 months together.

Or that they can change formations/tactics on a whim when they're new.

That comes with time.

Yeah, my big issue with the subs was the Siggurdson one. I know he wanted to work him up to match fitness, but Siggurdson is almost worthless defensively. In a game where they have the lions share of possession he was largely an afterthought that was run past easily. Klaassen came on and played well, first time we've seen him play a more defensive role, obviously hes no Gueye, but he worked well.

Really it was more of our mentality, we had plenty of opportunities with the ball at our feet in our half, and time and space, but rather than dribble and pass out, we just chucked it up the field to nobody.

All in all though, not bad considering it was one of our 3 toughest away games of the season. The reality is to be a CL team you can only afford 5-6 losses. Of the top 6 last season, 4-5 of those losses ALL came against the top 6. The best against the top 6 was Liverpool, and they finished 4th, just 1 point above Arsenal who was abysmal against the top 6. Why? Because Arsenal did what we need to do, and beat just about everyone else. Chelsea, Man City, and Tottenham all lost 4 games against the top 10. and picked up an average of 12-13 points out of 10 games. But Chelsea won the league based on how they played the bottom 14 teams, where they won 25, drew 2, and lost 1. In order to make CL we need to be more like City, and go 21 wins, 5 draws, and 2 losses against the bottom 14. Win 2 out of every 3 games and that will likely see us through.

It pains me to say but THIS.

Ronny is changing the formation and the players every week, thats 1 of the reasons why we look so disjointed, new players, new system, it will take time for things to come together, for players to know their roles and also for the players to play like a team.

Thankfully we are picking up "results" whilst its happening.

No mate, it absolutely is pessimism when you get people in this thread and the match thread claiming that if we had taken the game to them when they were a man down and we were winning that we would have ended up losing. That is an incredibly pessimistic outlook on our ability.

People were adamant that to dare to attack City and attempt to capitalize on our man advantage would invite disaster.

I'm not expecting them to play like they've been playing together for 6 months damo I'm expecting them to think they're in with a chance going forward against ANY team that is a man down that we are already 1-0 up against.

No its called talking absolute cack.

You're thinking the team is a formula 1 car, when the reality is its still in the garages being fine tuned. Having had a new engine fitted.

It won't happen forever. You can already see the improvements from pre-season.

Thats about a month.

Imagine what two or three months will do for us.

Sorry mate, that last paragraph has given me a migraine, can you summarise it for me ?
