Ronald Koeman discussion

Damo,

While we haven't spent the Billions they have we were still a goal and a man up and failed to make it count. We managed a draw against them last year at their gaff and I'm fairly sure they still had 11 players at the end of that.

Will you stop telling me what I think and let me tell you instead? It is really starting to get on my tits.

When did I say anything about us closing the gap to City or being on their level? I never so you can stop putting up strawman arguments I didn't make and assigning them to me.

I have been clear in my position that whether that be City, United, or Chelsea (I'm excluding the RS for obvious bottling reasons) we should be good "enough" to secure 3 points at the end of a match when we were a goal and a man up at half time. I don't see why you disagree with that.

I mean, if we don't stand a chance attacking a 10 man City then we shouldn't have any hope of getting a result from 11 of them. Some of you seem to have bought into Koeman's earlier comments about needing a miracle a bit too much if you ask me.

You're acting like we were playing 10 man Bournemouth. At Goodison.

When actually we weren't.

Plus its an Everton team full of new players.

Most teams would still find a 10 man City team a challenge. Including the Uniteds, Chelseas of this world.

Guarantee if Koeman had brought on someone like Lookman, he would have been slated for leaving space in the midfield.
We had plenty of cover in the midfield. What we didn't have was support for DCL. You get one runner with a bit of pace and trickery (Sandro would have probably been brought on had he been available), and City suddenly look very stretched. We weren't going to win the midfield against City. Let us dominate the counter attack instead.

No mate, I am not.

I'm talking about this one game, the City game, and what I think we should be capable of when we're a goal and a man up. Brighton doesn't come into it, it could be Chelsea or Utd and I'd still hope we would take the game to them and see it through for the 3 points.

Football doesn't work like that though and never has done.

The United's and Chelsea's of this world wouldn't be struggling to get out of their own half against them at 10 men for an entire half.

I'm not saying there is a need to go all out and throw every player forwards but surely there has to be some quality on the ball going forward and some extra space for us to exploit.

And leave open space for them to run through and have one-on-ones with Baines and Jags? No thanks. I like Baines and Jags but Sterling, Aguero, De Bruyne, etc would have dance through them if we left space.

You are assuming that Mirallas and Lookman don't track back. Both of them would do just as much work as Siggy did last night. He wasn't match fit.

City were attacking like mad but were all fart and no poo. Lookman instead of Besic or Klassen and Lookman would have served as a better double sub, exploit their space and break on the counter.
