Ronald Koeman discussion

Not easy being Koeman, selling the best striker in ages sold, with no replacement.

And international matches, on the last transfer day.

Not easy

Maybe we'll get lucky and win a couple of games away from home against the top 6 this year. Most of the time it is down to 'luck' rather than any fantastic tactics presented by the managers. If it wasn't then these managers would be working at a much higher level.

It's been something like 15 years, we've had three managers and we've probably won one game away against a top side (United under Moyes) in that time. It's an absolutely awful record I agree but I really doubt other teams are much better.

The irony is under Martinez and his 'philosophy' we did give the 'top 6' a game - not to say it didn't have it's gapping flaws, but the principle stands we tried to influence the game in a positive way and he came as close to any as breaking a few ducks. Currently -and going back to last season- we don't seem to want to influence the game, instead we try to contain teams and grind out a result of sorts.

Other teams records being good or bad is irrelevant, the fact is numerous teams have beat/competed with the 'top 6' away from home, be that consistently, or on the odd occasions, says all that needs to said. If for says sake we pick up the odd win at a 'top 6' side that could easily be the difference between challenging higher, or being happy to settle for 'best of the rest' when we loose. Like I said nobody is demanding 3-points or claiming an entitlement to them, merely suggesting we approach the game with a degree of positivity, and actually try to play our game instead of the reactive stance we've had for a long time now.

We still didn't win any of those games under Martinez. We had a couple of good performances against the top teams in three years, the rest were exactly the same as what we served up today. Outclassed and hoping for the best.

Grind out the result/influence the game. It really matters very little when you haven't got the players to implement your tactics.

Can't see anything other than a 2 or 3-0 win to Utd - why would it be any closer than today's fiasco ?

Historically we just seem to have been in closer games at Old Trafford. Still think we'll lose like but hoping it'll be closer than today. Proper Everton mentality.

I honestly don't understand this mentality. They are HIS players! It's HIS squad! We had 2 players today who played against Chelsea away last year. This is 100% Koeman's team!

And forgetting that little side note, what ARE Koeman's tactics?

It's quite simple. Our players are nowhere near as good as Chelsea's so whilst tactics can help you to grind out a result it is likely you will lose.

These are RK's players he brought in. They better be the players capable of implementing his tactics.

Then what is the point in paying Koeman 6mil a year if we are resigned to being 7th because "our players are nowhere near as good" as the top 6? They hired him because his job is to make up that gap. He's responding with some of the most negative football I've ever seen us play.
