Ronald Koeman discussion

I think Koeman will turn this bad patch around and we will finish the season in a respectable position. Not so sure he can win a trophy or break into the top six (please prove me wrong Ron).

Can see him leaving after 3 years, having steadied the ship that Martinez was on his way to sinking, leaving a decent foundation for the next manager.

The problem is because we pose no threat in attack, teams are comfortable high pressing us (atalanta had half their team in or around or box) - even on counter attack DCL/Sandro/CMs are too slow or can't finish to pose a threat. Because the board/manager/walsh failed to sign decent strikers/wingers.

Should we ever, ever be 3-0 down at half time at home to Spurs? Obviously you can take a heavy defeat to the top sides in the league. There's no shame in that. There can be shame in the type of performance we put in. Same goes for Atalanta. Against Spurs, we had the entire second half to attempt to rally, maybe get a goal back, give the fans some fight to cheer for and some hope for future games. Instead after half time we looked even worse than we did in the first half. That's just abysmal.

We're going to lose football matches. Let's face it we're all used to it by now. But some posters seem to want to take all context and evidence out of their posts. Of course we can lose to Spurs and Chelsea. It would be nice if we gave it a bit of a go mind you. Is that too much to ask?

If I am not mistaken Spurs trounced us 4-0 on the opening day of the 1984/85 season, when we were full of optimism after lifting the Cup in May.

I am open to correction here.

(oh....and we know how that season ended ;))

No trying to wind up but who cares about semi? It's nothing.

Well...there's people who think spending £200mill isn't enough to compete with the top 6 cos they've spent waaaay more.

So actually getting to a semi final after spending buttons is a big deal. Shows at least you're challenging for silverware as opposed to crashing out early doors and finishing midtable.

the performances are worse than the results, this he has total control of, what is he doing all week on the training ground? all internationals not a single good performance over the last 10 games, he has got a great chance to bury all this, we will see what he is made of against utd.
A decent Manager builds a team > A team is a group players where the sum of the parts is greater than the whole > Our team has the sum of the parts lesser than the whole > Koeman is not therefore up to now a decent manager.
QED.
Our one chance - baring a miracle that it all of a sudden clicks - is to go at them like we're a lower team in an FA Cup tie. Dogs of War, The Wimbledon Crazy Gang...can Ron see this, would the players be up for it, will Rooney get a red??

It was 0-2 at half time against Spurs, but your point is a fair one.

Tim you are succumbing to the very "small time" thinking you were talking about earlier :)

For the record......those "2 of the best 3 teams in the league"?

Burnley have played them both, away, and taken four points.

Too many excuses being made for our listless start to the season.
You seem to think that stamping your feet and screaming "but I want Everton to be the best team now!" is a winning mentality.

It isn't.

The player recruitment and lack of pace in the side is a detriment.

Pace in the modern game is what all the good teams have,to not have a counter attacking tactic in our game will see us struggle, teams can push up high up the pitch and take control of the game knowing full well we will not get behind them on a counter.

With this slow squad it's going to be a long frustrating season.

Walsh and his scouts should be drawing up a list of pacy wide players and a quick CB to play alongside Keane.

Think it was 4-1 and we battered them but they had 5 chances all game. Scored with 4 and hit the bar with the other.

Look Ronny was asked to build a squad to compete, sadly they took away the tools to do that, so its just a case of making do, people talk about all this money we have spent, the teams above us have been spending the same amount EVERY year of the last 10 or so, but ok.

Money doesnt buy success, only proper team building can achieve that goal, no team, no chance.

We will turn this around, after United we will go on a run only to be brought back down to Earth in a few weeks when we face Lyon and Arsenal, then all the rats will scurry around mentioning utter no marks like Unsworth, Silva and Favre, bringing up Ronnys time at Valencia 10 years ago like the laughable mutants they are, Valencia havent won a single pot since Koeman left, for the record.

Productivity in the final 3rd.
