Ronald Koeman discussion

Yeah what im going to say here is very harsh. But Jags comments are typical of the loser mentality that has been the hallmark of this club post 1995.Jags has been a good servant to Everton. But he was speaking as our captain with those comments. The captaincy should have been stripped off Jags in the summer. It's very telling that it hasn't imo.He still has something to offer as a player. But we need a new captain imo.A proper leader who can inspire people on the pitch.I think the role is made for Seamus Coleman when he get's back in the team.

Some of our players seem all too ready to accept defeat.

No trying to wind up but who cares about semi? It's nothing.

I think it's better than being eliminated from a competition at the first time of asking.

If for no better reason than it means Everton have won a few matches along the way to brighten up my life.

Saying a semi final is "nothing" is akin to chanting Dave's mantra during the Martinez Wars that there is no difference between finishing 5th and 17th.

Of course there is.....a blooming great difference.

Ditto with Cup competitions.

But that's just me

Koeman does not gove the youth the chance unless he has to...... As he did at Southampton.

Awful manager IMO

Not sure that's true..I saw some figures somewhere showing that more 'youth' had got a game at Everton than at any other Prem club. RK is at a crossroads, but the crossroads have come too soon. No improvement in league position and a couple of poor cup runs will see him having lots of questions to face, and to ask himself at the end of this season. He has talked the talk....he now has to prove how much bottle he has. There is no doubt that we have a squad of 'better' players...he now has to turn them into a team. Is there a Dutch manager/coach who has been an outright success in the Prem? Maybe its the Dutch attitude which is their downfall in this league?

The fact that people expect a heavy defeat and are hoping for damage limitation whilst saying the season starts against Bournemouth says everything. Small time mentality reigns supreme again in the upper echelons of our club, no wonder we have no confidence as fans.

Exactly.

I keep reading that it is "only four games gone".

Well, four games, say five after tomorrow, is around about 11 or 12% of the season gone.

That is a sizeable chunk of the season over before we find ourselves at what far too many round these parts are just accepting is our own level, back in the shallow end with Bournemouth

koeman has made mistakes but people are overrating our youth so much. Do you really think we'll be much better with Holgate,Kenny,Davies and Lookman in the team???

Holgate isn't that good, Davies has talent but nowhere near good enough te start every week, same for Lookman. Kenny i don't know. Besides that Calvert Lewin plays a lot and Vlasic started against Atalanta. There's no manager in the PL who plays so much teenagers and not just because he has to.

You can critisize him for a lot of things but for not playing the youth enough is BS.

I agree that he does give youth a chance, but I think you're being too harsh on our young players. Davies was our best midfielder and catalyst for our good run of form in the 2nd half of last season. Could giving Holgate a go at CB be any worse than what Williams is doing there at the moment. Likewise why not give an U20 world cup winning right back a chance, even just a small one, rather than persisting with a young CB or an utter donkey?

It's like RK is deliberately trying to pick the stodgiest, one-paced 11 available.

The team should play for themselves, the club, the supporters.

This lot have hung one manager out to dry before. Another one and they can do one.
Well the way they have played in the last couple of games it looks like they are trying it again. Those displays were as bad as anything served up under Martinez and I can't see anything but a repeat tomorrow.

Our first 2 results in the league were good though. Since then we've faced 2 of the 3 best sides in the league. We face the other one tomorrow.

Indeed.

Interesting to read he walked away from Valencia with £8 million quid for his failure there lol

Top level football management is without doubt the best job in the world :pint2:

Where else doee failure bring such great reward ;)
If he won a cup this season would you call that a failure?

Should we ever, ever be 3-0 down at half time at home to Spurs? Obviously you can take a heavy defeat to the top sides in the league. There's no shame in that. There can be shame in the type of performance we put in. Same goes for Atalanta. Against Spurs, we had the entire second half to attempt to rally, maybe get a goal back, give the fans some fight to cheer for and some hope for future games. Instead after half time we looked even worse than we did in the first half. That's just abysmal.

We're going to lose football matches. Let's face it we're all used to it by now. But some posters seem to want to take all context and evidence out of their posts. Of course we can lose to Spurs and Chelsea. It would be nice if we gave it a bit of a go mind you. Is that too much to ask?

Its the fans saying the stuff that gives the fans no confidence? Hey? Think again. OK,we missed out on a striker. Barca missed out on Courtinho! Does that mean Barca are small time? City missed out on a couple that they wanted, etc. etc. Nobody had a perfect window...we had a better window than most. If supporters lose confidence after four league games and one Euro defeat in five games, its the supporters who should be taking a good look at themselves, as well as the coach and the players.
