Ronald Koeman discussion

It's extraordinary how quick this season is unravelling. I blame Giroud.
4 games in. It's been a bad start, get these next few matches out the way and not get battered and see where we are. We have been badly gash but we've had probably the toughest run of games of any team in the league with a very new side. Not making excuses, we should have signed a proven striker and performed better in the big games but I hope these performances aren't a true reflection of our quality and don't think they are.

Let's stop mentioning Martinez.

The bloke is disgusting.

Taking millions and millions out of the club and giving nothing but incompetence back.

A complete and utter charlatan.

koeman hasnt proven to be any better
Worse at least Martinez finished 5th in his first season, beat Man United twice, beat Arsenal 3 0, and won something like 8 games in a row or something like that. Martinez was a nice guy who's football style, simply wasn't suited to British football, but even in his last season we got to 2 semi finals, which isn't great but still something. Martinez played attacking football, he simply didn't know how to defend, under Koemann we don't know how to score or defend. Plus Koemann had a lot more money given to him than Moyes or Martinez. Martinez did at least bring in Lukaku and Deulofeu, plus brought Stones and Barkley into the team, which we have to give him credit for. In my opinion that has hardened since the end of the transfer window, we have spent huge amounts of money on average players, or players we don't need. We sold Stones and brought in Williams, rather than a player who is actually comfortable on the ball.
He's failed to bring in a winger, somebody like Redmond would do a good job, maybe even Walcott. He failed to bring in a striker, Giroud, Dembele, Dzeko, Benteke, maybe even somebody like Welbeck. He hasn't brought in a left back, to me an obvious signing would be Tierney from Celtic, watched him a few times seems like a great player. He instead bought 3 players in the same position, bought Keane and play him with players who do nothing to help him. I accepted that the first season would be difficult and that it would take time for him to bring in the players he wants, however I can't forgive him for wasting money on players we don't need, while not prioritising certain signings first. We are no in the ludicrous position, where we expect to lose 6-0 on Sunday.
Also I don't see any evidence our players like him, which is even worse. I remember when we played Arsenal at home in the 15/16 season and it was clear the players didn't have a clue what they were doing, I get the same impression watching us now. We'll all be accused of being knee jerkers and fickle, but I'm just under the belief when you spend the amount we have we shouldn't be happy to only lose 3-0 to Spurs at home, because we were so awful. I don't see any evidence we're any better now than we were under Martinez, the fact that the club and the fans haven't made a big deal over him suggests that he's isn't that popular. Also for all his flaws, the decision to just single out players, when the whole team have played badly is to me, the sign of a bully not a manager.

So...Koeman finishing 6th and 7th at Southampton is more impressive than Martinez finishing 5th at Everton.

Your critique blames Koeman for not signing players, yet he doesn't sign players.

As it stands we are too narrow, full backs get overran, can't get forward and too many player's occupying the centre of the pitch. I think if he puts Lennon on the right and Mirallas/Vlasic/Lookman on the left and told them to stick to the wing and help your full back when needed then we will stop shipping goals as currently we are being hammered down the flanks. We'll also actually be able to have some luck in the opposition half with full backs over lapping and putting crosses in. I'd have Gueye and Davies in the middle and Glyfi behind DCL or Rooney.

Spot on ;)

Regardless of how well/badly both teams have started this season, if the eleven on the pitch from Rooney returning to Old Trafford to the rearguard, determined to put one over on Lukaku, can't muster any fighting spirit for this fixture, then they can all get in the bin.
